Shear Thickening and Turbulence in Simple Fluids
Physical Review Letters, 1986In 1984 Erpenbeck observed a shear-induced alignment of particles into strings in nonequilibrium molecular-dynamics simulations of shear flow in the hard-sphere fluid. In this paper we show that this effect arises from the use of a thermostat which assumes a stable linear velocity profile.

Study of the temperature effect of shear thickening fluid
2013 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics, 2013This paper presents the study of temperature effect on a shear thickening fluid made of ethylene glycol and fumed silica with a 20% weight fraction. Four typical temperatures, ranging from 20°C to 80°C, were selected to study the shear rate dependence of viscosity.

Onset of shear thickening in a simple fluid
The European Physical Journal E, 2004We report on nonequilibrium molecular-dynamics simulations of the shear-thickening transition in a simple fluid under shear. We relate the shear-thickening transition to the onset of instabilities in the flow profile and to that of dramatic variations in normal stress differences.

Applications of shear thickening fluids: a review
International Journal of Hydromechatronics, 2018Shear thickening fluids (STFs) are a type of non-Newtonian fluids. In the equilibrium state, the STFs are in liquid-state. However, they become solid-state under a sudden strike or impact. And when the strike or impact is removed, the STFs can turn back to their equilibrium properties.
