Soft Mechanical‐Electrical Logic Using Liquid Metal‐Filled 3D‐Printed Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present 3D‐printed soft mechanical–electrical logic elements that use liquid metal–filled silicone tubes actuated by thermoplastic polyurethane/polylactic acid (TPU/PLA) architectures to produce Boolean operations. Complementary normally open and normally closed unit cells perform repeatable binary transitions and can be combined into more complex ...

The rheological properties of shear thickening fluid reinforced with SiC nanowires

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2017
The rheological properties of shear thickening fluid (STF) reinforced with SiC nanowires were investigated in this paper. Pure STF consists of 56 vol% silica nano-particles and polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG 400) solvent was fabricated; and a specific ...

Toward Knowledge‐Based Workflows: A Semantic Approach to Atomistic Simulations for Mechanical and Thermodynamic Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Knowledge‐based atomistic workflows are presented for mechanical and thermodynamic properties. By coupling modular simulations with ontology‐aligned metadata and provenance, Fe case studies on elastic behavior, defects, thermal properties, and Hall–Petch strengthening reveal how FAIR, queryable, and reusable simulation data can be generated. Mechanical

Effect of SiO2 Particle Size and Length of Poly(Propylene Glycol) Chain on Rheological Properties of Shear Thickening Fluids

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2016
The rheological properties of shear thickening fluids based on silica powder of particles size in range 0.10 – 2.80 μm and poly(propylene glycol) of 425, 1000, 2000 g/mol molar mass were investigated.

Mechanical properties of shear thickening fluid filled warp-knitted spacer fabrics

open access: yesJournal of Industrial Textiles, 2023
This paper reports the compressive behavior and low-velocity impact behavior of warp-knitted spacer fabrics (WKSFs) filled with shear thickening fluid (STF) when subjected to quasi-static compression and low-velocity impact loadings, respectively. In the

Unsteady flow, clusters, and bands in a model shear-thickening fluid [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2020
We analyse the flow curves of a two-dimensional assembly of granular particles which are interacting via frictional contact forces. For packing fractions slightly below jamming, the fluid undergoes a large scale instability, implying a range of stress and strainrates where no stationary flow can exist.

Influence of Geometric Design on Mechanical Performance of Auxetic Metastructure

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Strategic geometric reinforcement transforms auxetic performance. This study evaluates 3D‐printed arrowhead metastructures, revealing that a modified design with local ring reinforcement suppresses premature failure to achieve superior energy absorption and structural efficiency.

Different method to make laminates by shear thickening fluid

open access: yesScience and Engineering of Composite Materials, 2014
One of the disadvantages of shear thickening fluid (STF) is high concentration. For better immersion of fibers, at first STF is diluted in ethanol, and then the fibers are left therein for a specified period in order to impregnate all fibers with the ...

Experimental and Numerical Modal Analysis of Composite Sandwich Structures Using Surfboards as Model Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents an experimental and numerical modal investigation of composite sandwich structures using surfboards as model systems. By comparing different core materials and reinforcement strategies, the study demonstrates how local stiffeners influence vibrational response and introduce characteristic modal features, highlighting modal ...

Coating Artificial Spider Silk Fiber with Magnetic FeCo: An Effective Strategy for Creating a Flexible Magneto‐Responsive Material

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An original method is presented for producing artificial spider silk fibers with magnetic and magnetomechanical responsiveness, which consists in coating them with a nanometer‐thick layer of FeCo alloy by sputtering deposition. The challenge of combining organic materials and inorganic magnetic nanostructures is addressed, thus taking a step forward ...
