Shear-thinning and shear-thickening emulsions in shear flows [PDF]
We study the rheology of a two-fluid emulsion in semiconcentrated conditions; the solute is Newtonian while the solvent is an inelastic power-law fluid. The problem at hand is tackled by means of direct numerical simulations using the volume of fluid method.

On the shear-thinning of alkanes
Abstract The approximate power-law dependence ofthe apparent viscosity of liquids on shear rate is of-ten argued to arise from a distribution of energy barri-ers. However, recent work on the Prandtl model, whichconsists of a point mass being dragged by a damped, harmonic spring past a sinusoidal potential, revealed asimilar dependence of the ...

Analysis of the Shear-Thinning Viscosity Behavior of the Johnson–Segalman Viscoelastic Fluids
This paper presents a numerical comparison of viscoelastic shear-thinning fluid flow using a generalized Oldroyd-B model and Johnson–Segalman model under various settings. Results for the standard shear-thinning generalization of Oldroyd-B model are used

Effect of Shear-Thinning Property on the Energy Performance and Flow Field of an Axial Flow Pump
In the chemical and petroleum industry, the axial flow pump is widely used for the circulation pipeline system, and most of the transportation mediums are the shear-thinning non-Newtonian fluids.

Interfacial Dynamics of Miscible Displacement of Shear-Thinning Fluid in a Vertical Channel
The displacement of a shear-thinning fluid by a denser and less viscous Newtonian fluid in a vertical duct is investigated using experiments and numerical simulations. We study how shear-thinning and increased viscosity contrast between the fluids affect

Modeling the Deformation of Shear Thinning Droplets Suspended in a Newtonian Fluid
In this work, we carried out numerical modeling of the large deformation of a shear thinning droplet suspended in a Newtonian matrix using the constrained volume model.

Pulsatile flow of shear-dependent fluid in a stenosed artery [PDF]
This paper aims to investigate the blood flow in a bell-shaped constricted rigid tube, modeled as stenosed artery. The flow is assumed to be axi-symmetric, laminar and of oscillatory type.

Shear thinning and shear thickening of a confined suspension of vesicles [PDF]
Widely regarded as an interesting model system for studying flow properties of blood, vesicles are closed membranes of phospholipids that mimic the cytoplasmic membranes of red blood cells. In this study we analyze the rheology of a suspension of vesicles in a confined geometry: the suspension, bound by two planar rigid walls on each side, is subject ...

The thinning of lamellae in surfactant-free foams with non-Newtonian liquid phase [PDF]
Thinning rates of liquid lamellae in surfactant-free non-Newtonian gas–liquid foams, appropriate for ceramic or polymer melts and also in metals near the melting point, are derived in two dimensions by matched asymptotic analysis valid at small capillary

Shear thinning of a critical viscoelastic fluid [PDF]
The frequency and shear dependent critical viscosity at a correlation length $ξ=κ^{-1}$, has the form $η=η_{0}κ^{-x_η}G(z_{1},z_{2})$, where $z_{1}$ and $z_{2}$ are the independent dimensionless numbers in the problem defined as $z_{1}=\frac{-iω}{2Γ_{0}κ^{3}}$ and $z_{2}=\frac{-iω}{2Γ_{0}κ_{c}^{3}}$.
