The analysis of shear-wall buildings
Building Science, 1966Abstract In spite of much interest in shear walls the theoretical side is lagging because of the extreme difficulties in mathematical analysis of the ‘mixed boundary value problem with multiply-connected regions’. The present paper reviews very briefly existing work done on this subject along with a brief description of the author's own contribution ...

The Measurement of Wall Shear Stress
1989Knowledge of the wall shear stress is of both fundamental and practical importance. The mean stress is indicative of the overall state of the flow over a given surface while the fluctuating stress is a “footprint” of the individual processes that transfer momentum to the wall.

Seismic performance of wall-stud shear walls
2002The ever-increasing need for housing generated the search for new and innovative building methods to increase speed, efficiency and enhance quality, one direction being the use of light steel profiles as load bearing elements and different materials for cladding.

Shear lag occurs not only in bridge decks and framed tubes, but also in shear/core walls. However, there have been relatively few studies on shear lag in wall structures. Moreover, most existing theories neglect shear lag in the webs and, although they are acceptable for bridge decks that normally have flanges wider than webs, they may not be ...
