Shear wave estimation by using Shear Wave Holography with normal vibration: Preliminary results

2017 39th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2017
Mechanical properties of soft human tissue are linked to their pathological state. One way to assess these properties is through the Young modulus measurement, which is related to the shear wave speed in the medium when considering tissues as nearly incompressible.

Shear wave tracking: open chest versus closed chest

2016 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS), 2016
This paper describes an in-vivo pilot study in which the systolic myocardial stiffness of four pigs was measured with various acoustic techniques. We compare the propagation velocity of shear waves in open chest and closed chest experiments, in which the open-chest shear wave was either physiologically induced by aortic valve closure (N=3), or ...

Shear wave anisotropy imaging

IEEE Symposium on Ultrasonics, 2003, 2004
Shear wave anisotropy imaging is a novel method that images local variations in tissue shear wave velocity. A commercial ultrasound scanner is used to generate and track propagating shear waves. Radiation force from a brief high-energy pulse generates shear waves. The pulses are steered in order to launch the waves at oblique angles.

Torsional shear wave transducer

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1995
A low frequency torsional transducer for the generation and/or reception of shear waves in a substantially solid medium. The transducer includes a spool like radiating structure to which are fixedly attached spaced piezoelectric elements. The elements undergo shear movement upon being electrically excited or upon receiving shear waves.

Fracture by Shear Waves

Journal of Applied Physics, 1972
The equation of motion and the stability conditions for cracks interacting with transversal waves and surface waves are given. Threshold conditions for crack propagation relate the crack to a critical duration of the pulse and a second condition gives a relation between initial pulse amplitude and crack length.

INVESTIGATION OF SHEAR WAVES

GEOPHYSICS, 1956
A series of measurements was made to investigate some of the fundamental properties of shear waves and to explore the possibility of using horizontally polarized (SH) shear waves for reflection prospecting. A special source was devised to produce a shearing motion which was detectable as far as 400 feet vertically and 1,000 feet horizontally.
