Shear Current Effects on Monochromatic Water Waves Crossing Trenches

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2015
The reflection coefficients of monochromatic water waves over trenches with shear current are estimated analytically. The diffraction of waves by an abrupt depth change and shear current is formulated by the matched eigenfunction expansion method.

Viscoelasticity Imaging of Biological Tissues and Single Cells Using Shear Wave Propagation

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2021
Changes in biomechanical properties of biological soft tissues are often associated with physiological dysfunctions. Since biological soft tissues are hydrated, viscoelasticity is likely suitable to represent its solid-like behavior using elasticity and ...

Artificial Intelligence in Systemic Sclerosis: Clinical Applications, Challenges, and Future Directions

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare autoimmune disease defined by immune dysregulation, vasculopathy, and progressive fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. Despite advances in care, major complications such as interstitial lung disease (ILD) and myocardial involvement remain the leading causes of morbidity and mortality.

Effective boundary condition for the reflection of shear waves at the periodic rough boundary of an elastic body

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 2018
We present a homogenization method to treat the problem of the reflection of waves at the free boundary of an elastic body, the edge being structured periodically at the subwavelength scale.

Topology of rotating stratified fluids with and without background shear flow

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2023
Poincaré inertio-gravity modes described by the shallow water equations in a rotating frame have nontrivial topology, providing a perspective on the origin of equatorially trapped Kelvin and Yanai waves.

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Shear waves in a nonlinear elastic cylindrical shell [PDF]

open access: yesИзвестия Саратовского университета. Новая серия: Математика. Механика. Информатика
Asymptotic integration methods have been used to model the propagation of a shear wave beam along a nonlinear-elastic cylindrical shell of the Sanders – Koiter model. The shell is assumed to be made of a material characterized by a cubic dependence

Possible ionospheric preconditioning by shear flow leading to equatorial spread F [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2005
Vertical shear in the zonal plasma drift speed is apparent in incoherent and coherent scatter radar observations of the bottomside F region ionosphere made at Jicamarca from about 1600–2200 LT.

Ontology‐Aligned Structuring and Reuse of Multimodal Materials Data and Workflows Toward Automatic Reproduction

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Reproduction of stacking fault energy calculations from literature with a semi‐automated large language model‐assisted extraction procedure: extraction of simulation protocol, atomistic structures, computational parameters, and reported results, ontology alignment, knowledge graph construction and, finally, recomputation forvalidation.
