A Novel Protein‐Polysaccharide Oral Nanoemulsion Targeting Activated Hepatic Stellate Cells to Enhance the Therapeutic Effect of Pirfenidone on Fibrosis After Transarterial Chemoembolization for Liver Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE) may aggravate liver fibrosis. In this study, a novel oral targeting nanoemulsion is fabricated to enhance the therapeutic effect of antifibrotic drug‐pirfenidone (PFD) on fibrosis after TACE. Studies have shown that PFD nanoemulsion can enhance the oral liver targeting effect of PFD, and effectively improve the ...

Effective-Temperature Induced Shear Banding in the Shear-Transformation-Zone Theory of Plasticity [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
This paper examines the stability of a previously proposed version of the shear-transformation-zone (STZ) theory of plasticity where the total STZ population is determined by an effective temperature and compares it to experimental results for a metallic glass.

Development of a Novel, All‐Aromatic High Tensile Modulus Liquid Crystalline Polyimide for Fused Filament Fabrication Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel, high tensile modulus, fully aromatic thermotropic liquid crystalline polyimide (LCPI) with better solvent resistance and thermal stability is synthesized. Tensile specimens are fabricated using both injection molding and FFF processes, accomplished via lower viscosity enabled by the LC phase.

A Model for Athermal Strain Localization in Dry Sheared Fault Gouge [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Shear banding is widely observed in natural fault zones as well as in gouge layers in laboratory experiments. Understanding the dynamics of strain localization under different loading conditions is essential for quantifying strength evolution of fault gouge, energy partitioning during earthquakes and characterizing rheological transitions and fault ...

Universal and wide shear zones in granular bulk flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We present experiments on slow granular flows in a modified (split-bottomed) Couette geometry in which wide and tunable shear zones are created away from the sidewalls. For increasing layer heights, the zones grow wider (apparently without bound) and evolve towards the inner cylinder according to a simple, particle-independent scaling law.

The nature of the Albstadt Shear Zone, Germany

open access: yes, 2020

The region around the town of Albstadt, SW Germany, is one of the most seismically active regions in Central Europe. In the last century alone three earthquakes with a magnitude greater than five happened and caused major damage. The ruptures occur along the Albstadt Shear Zone (ASZ), an approx.

3D In Vitro Glioma‐Neuron‐Astrocyte Biomimetic Composites Recapitulate Key Molecular Mechanisms Linked to Glioblastoma Multiforme Pathophysiology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Glioblastoma multiforme is the most devastating and incurable brain tumor. To better study this disease, a 3D model is developed using a hyaluronic acid‐based hydrogel combined with a multicellular approach. This model recapitulates in vivo brain stiffness, cell‐extracellular matrix and cell‐cell interactions and the tumor's hijacking function with the

Transpression and tectonic exhumation in the Heimefrontfjella, western orogenic front of the East African/Antarctic Orogen, revealed by quartz textures of high strain domains

open access: yesPolar Research, 2016
The metamorphic basement of the Heimefrontfjella in western Dronning Maud Land (Antarctica) forms the western margin of the major ca. 500 million year old East African/East Antarctic Orogen that resulted from the collision of East Antarctica and greater ...

Crustal extension and transform faulting in the southern Basin Range Province [PDF]

open access: yes
The author has identified the following significant results. Field reconnaissance and study of geologic literature guided by analysis of ERTS-1 MSS imagery have led to a hypothesis of tectonic control of Miocene volcanism, plutonism, and related ...
