The Discrete Shearlet Transform: A New Directional Transform and Compactly Supported Shearlet Frames
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2010It is now widely acknowledged that analyzing the intrinsic geometrical features of the underlying image is essential in many applications including image processing. In order to achieve this, several directional image representation schemes have been proposed.

Shearlets and their applications
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2012Shearlets were introduced as means to sparsely encode anisotropic singularities of multivariate data while providing a unified treatment of the continuous and digital realm. In this chapter, recent results on compactly supported shearlet systems will be presented, in particular, showing that these shearlet frames provide optimally sparse approximations

The aim of this report is a self-contained overview on shearlets, a new multiscale method emerged in the last decade to overcome some of the limitation of traditional multiscale methods, like wavelets. Shearlets are obtained by translating, dilating and shearing a single mother function.
