Body Weight Estimation in Holstein × Zebu Crossbred Heifers: Comparative Analysis of XGBoost and LightGBM Algorithms

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 4, July 2025.
This study evaluated the effectiveness of XGBoost and LightGBM algorithms for the purpose of live weight estimation in Holstein × Zebu crossbred heifers. In the analysis performed with a large biometric dataset, both models provided high accuracy, with the XGBoost algorithm standing out with R2 = 0.999 in the training set and R2 = 0.986 in the test set.
