Climate Change Agricultural Comparative Advantage and the US Trade Balance

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Current science indicates that warming and elevated atmospheric CO2 will have ambiguous results for crop productivity depending on crop type and geographic location, whereas increased heat stress makes livestock and human labor less productive.

THE ANALYSIS OF CORRELATIONS BETWEEN THE MAIN TRAITS OF WOOL PRODUCTION ON PALAS SHEEP LINE FOR MEAT, MILK AND HIGH PROLIFICACY

open access: yesScientific Papers Animal Science and Biotechnologies, 2023
The aim of this paper was to analyze the coefficient of phenotypic correlation and regression between main wool production traits for the sheep belonging to the Palas line specialized for meat, milk and with high prolificacy. The study was performed on a

Synergies in Agricultural Biodiversity Conservation: Decomposing the Interaction Between Nature Parks and Agri‐Environment Schemes

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Understanding how policy instruments with overlapping goals interact is crucial for leveraging their synergies. This study explores the mechanisms for regional nature parks (a form of protected areas that impose no restrictions on agriculture) to enhance the adoption of biodiversity‐conserving agri‐environment schemes (AES) in Switzerland ...

Climate Change Mitigation in the Dairy Sector: Uncovering Heterogeneity Through Eco‐Efficiency Clubs

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Combining climate change goals with economic targets is crucial for the dairy sector, which is a significant contributor to agricultural greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions worldwide. In this paper, we assess economic and climate change implications of dairy production with panel data of Irish dairy farms from 2013 to 2021.

Price Premiums for Single‐Name and Compound‐Name Geographical Indications in Swiss Cheese Trade

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Geographical indications (GIs) have become increasingly important in agri‐food markets, especially in Europe. For Swiss cheese imports and exports, we analyze whether GIs are associated with higher trade prices. We find that price premiums can be obtained for both exports and imports. However, this is only the case for cheeses with single name

Resilience of Small Beef Packers and the USDA Meat Supply Chain Initiative

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We focus on the plant‐size resilience relationship among small beef packers during COVID‐19. Defining resilience as the ability to maintain or increase slaughter and non‐resilience as otherwise, we use survey and secondary data to estimate a logit model where resilience is a function of a plant's capacity and age in addition to labor condition

Comparative assessment on the effect of long vis-à-vis short-term progesterone priming on reproductive attributes in silent estrus goats

open access: yesIndian Journal of Animal Sciences
Silent estrus results in spread-out kidding and extended inter-kidding interval in goats. Progesterone (P4) priming for 12-14 days could be one of the approaches for estrus induction with optimum fertility.

Examining the Impact of Row Planting on Labor Use for Sustainable Food Production Among Maize Farmers in Rural Ghana

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Smallholder farmers are reverting to traditional production methods due to the high opportunity costs and unintended consequences of new technologies. This study focuses on row planting technology, which is labor‐intensive and slow without mechanized operations.

The Power of Unity: Collective Action and Smallholder Agricultural Performance in West Africa

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We analyze the impact of collective action through farmer‐based organizations (FBOs) on smallholders' farm performance and income inequality in Ghana, Benin, The Gambia, and Mali. We find that FBO membership increases cereal yield in Ghana and The Gambia, legume yield in Mali, ruminant numbers in Benin and The Gambia, and total farm income in ...

Direct Selection of Functional De Novo Macrocycles for Activation of On‐Cellulo Insulin Receptor

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A live‐cell screening platform, RaPID‐ExCells, integrates mRNA display‐derived macrocyclic peptide libraries with functional selection against native cell‐surface receptors. Application to the insulin receptor enabled de novo discovery of a macrocyclic agonist that activates endogenous signaling despite weak in vitro binding, highlighting the power of ...
