Electrophoretic detection of black market myostatin propeptide

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, Volume 14, Issue 11-12, Page 1812-1824, November-December 2022., 2022
Of the 12 black market products investigated, only nine contained the target protein among dozens of other proteins. In the remaining ones, small growth hormone‐related peptides were found by mass spectrometry (e.g., tesamorelin). A shotgun proteomics approach revealed that all nine products contained full length GST‐tags.

Noncooperative Herding With Control Barrier Functions: Theory and Experiments [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
In this paper, we consider the problem of protecting a high-value unit from inadvertent attack by a group of agents using defending robots. Specifically, we develop a control strategy for the defending agents that we call "dog robots" to prevent a flock of "sheep agents" from breaching a protected zone.

Diseases of sheep observed in Iowa. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Owing to the increasing importance of the sheep industry and the frequent inquiries received concerning diseases of this animal, many of which are imperfectly understood by sheep raisers and veterinarians, it was deemed advisable to investigate and ...

Sensor‐enabled Orthopedic Implants for Musculoskeletal Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Sensor Research, EarlyView.
Smart orthopedic implants can self‐monitor, assess bone tissue health, and enable personalized treatment customization, going beyond the provision of essential mechanical and physiological functions. This article introduces the trend of sensor‐enabled orthopedic implants, which represents one of the future directions for the development of smart ...

Sheep identity recognition, age and weight estimation datasets [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Increased interest of scientists, producers and consumers in sheep identification has been stimulated by the dramatic increase in population and the urge to increase productivity. The world population is expected to exceed 9.6 million in 2050. For this reason, awareness is raised towards the necessity of effective livestock production.

Integrity of H1 helix in prion protein revealed by molecular dynamic simulations to be especially vulnerable to changes in the relative orientation of H1 and its S1 flank [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In the template-assistance model, normal prion protein (PrPC), the pathogenic cause of prion diseases such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob (CJD) in human, Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) in cow, and scrapie in sheep, converts to infectious prion (PrPSc) through an autocatalytic process triggered by a transient interaction between PrPC and PrPSc ...

Route Design in Sheepdog System--Traveling Salesman Problem Formulation and Evolutionary Computation Solution-- [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
In this study, we consider the guidance control problem of the sheepdog system, which involves the guidance of the flock using the characteristics of the sheepdog and sheep. Sheepdog systems require a strategy to guide sheep agents to a target value using a small number of sheepdog agents, and various methods have been proposed.

Bee Better: The Role of Honey in Modern Wound Care

open access: yesAdvanced Therapeutics, EarlyView.
The use of honey as a wound care agent is controversial but paradoxically increasingly popular. Honey possesses relevant antimicrobial properties and can modulate the immune system. The wound healing properties of honey likely depend on its composition and varies across wound types.

Modeling Sheep pox Disease from the 1994-1998 Epidemic in Evros Prefecture, Greece [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Sheep pox is a highly transmissible disease which can cause serious loss of livestock and can therefore have major economic impact. We present data from sheep pox epidemics which occurred between 1994 and 1998. The data include weekly records of infected farms as well as a number of covariates.
