Effects of pinealectomy on wool growth and wool follicle density in Merino sheep

Journal of Pineal Research, 1992
Abstract: There is evidence to indicate that pinealectomy may enhance wool growth in the sheep. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of pinealectomy on wool growth and wool follicle density in Merino sheep.Castrated Merino rams (4 months old) were either pinealectomized (P), sham‐pinealectomized (S) or not treated (C).

Volatiles from sheep wool and the modification of wool odour

Small Ruminant Research, 2003
Abstract Compounds in the headspace of a variety of wool samples and greases have been analysed with the aid of solid phase microextraction using a carboxen-polydimethylsiloxane coated fibre. Volatiles were analysed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, while sulphur-containing compounds were analysed using gas chromatography/pulsed flame ...

Bundles of Primary Wool Follicles in Sheep

Nature, 1957
Hardy and Lyne1 have shown that bundles of secondary (S) wool follicles are formed by branching in the merino fœtus. The same method of bundle formation is also known to occur in karakul sheep2. Bundles of S follicles, with common openings at the skin surface, were found in the adults of many breeds of sheep examined by Spottel and Tanzer3, the number ...

Cell migration in wool follicles of sheep

Journal of Cell Science, 1971
ABSTRACT The migration of cells in wool follicles was studied by autoradiography of skin biopsies taken at half-day intervals from 2 to 5 days after intradermal injections of tritiated thymidine in 8 Corriedale sheep on different planes of nutrition. Cell migration rates were not the same in all follicles.

Growth of wool fibres in sheep.

Australian Journal of Agricultural Research, 1952
