Sheet-Bulk Metal Forming of Symmetric and Asymmetric Parts

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
The unique process of sheet-bulk metal forming (SBMF) represents a combination of sheet and bulk metal forming by inducing a three-dimensional material flow in sheet metals in a single forming stage. Within this paper two different applications of sheet-bulk metal forming are demonstrated.

Holistic dimensional measurement of sheet-bulk metal formed parts

Optical Metrology and Inspection for Industrial Applications V, 2018
Due to recent developments in sheet-bulk metal forming processes, holistic measuring systems are required which provide reliable results for the measurement of all relevant formed part features. The presented multi scale multisensor approach, which combines several fringe projection sensors of different measuring resolutions and ranges, accomplishes ...

Novel Five-Axis Forming Press for the Incremental Sheet-Bulk Metal Forming

Key Engineering Materials, 2013
The incremental procedure of sheet-bulk metal forming was classified into two different forming sequences, the discrete and the continuous. Based on these two groups, a movement matrix was developed, which captures required kinematic motions to manufacture a variety of functional components.

Manufacturing of functional elements by sheet-bulk metal forming processes

Production Engineering, 2016
Due to increasing economic and ecological restrictions, conventional sheet and bulk forming operations often reach their limits with regard to part weight and functional integration. One solution to meet those challenges is provided by sheet-bulk metal forming (SBMF) processes.

Amorphous Carbon Coatings for Sheet-Bulk Metal Forming Tools

2020
Sheet-bulk metal forming processes are commonly characterized by temporally and locally varying stress conditions, likely to affect material flow during forming and therefore the geometrical accuracy of formed parts. Local modifications of friction conditions can contribute to control the flow of material and simultaneously to reduce process forces and

Mechanism-Based Modelling of Wear in Sheet-Bulk Metal Forming

2020
Friction characteristics and wear of sheet-bulk metal forming tools featuring microstructured surfaces are simulated on the mesoscale. Computational homogenisation is used for surface cut-outs on which the structures are geometrically resolved and where friction laws model lower scale roughness. Two approaches are presented for the modelling of wear. A

Influence of Superimposing of Oscillation on Sheet-Bulk Metal Forming

Key Engineering Materials, 2013
Due to novel processes like sheet-bulk metal forming, the requirements for sheet metal forming are increased. Sheet-bulk metal forming is a new interconnected process in which the part itself is manufactured by deep drawing and the gearing will be produced with bulk forming in a combined process at room temperature.

Sheet-bulk metal forming of functional components from coil

2022

Lightweight joining of polymer and polymer-metal sheets by sheet-bulk forming

Journal of Cleaner Production, 2017
Abstract This paper presents an environmentally friendly joining process based on sheet-bulk plastic deformation to connect two polymer (or a polymer and a metal) sheets perpendicular to one another. The methodology draws from material characterization and finite element modelling, using an extension of the flow formulation to pressure-sensitive ...

Joining sheets perpendicular to one other by sheet-bulk metal forming

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2016
This paper presents a variant of the traditional ‘mortise-and-tenon’ joint, which has been used for thousands of years by carpenters and blacksmiths to connect wood or metal parts. The new proposed joint is utilized to fix longitudinally in position two metal sheets (or plates) perpendicular to one other by sheet-bulk metal forming, at room temperature.
