Formability of Aluminum Alloy Sheets

Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology, 1975
High strength-to-weight ratio materials are becoming of increasing importance in the automotive industry. Some aluminum alloy sheets offer strength equivalent to low-carbon sheet steel at one third of the weight. However, for these alloys no production stamping experience exists and little meaningful laboratory data have been accumulated.

Formability of Porous Tantalum Sheet-Metal

Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering, 2011
Over the past 10 years, a novel cellular solid, Trabecular MetalTM (TM), has been developed for use in the orthopedics industry as an ingrowth scaffold. Manufactured using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) on top of a graphite foam substrate, this material has a regular matrix of interconnecting pores, high strength, and high porosity.

Formability and Sprinback of Sheets

2018
The main applications of metal plasticity include the process analysis and design of metal forming, which broadly consists of sheet forming and bulk forming.

Formability of aluminium-alloy sheets

Journal of Mechanical Working Technology, 1986
Abstract Since the construction of forming-limit diagrams is very time consuming, their application in sheet-metal selection in industrial practice is limited. The present work demonstrates that in industrial practice, a simple index, based on the results of the uniaxial tensile test — namely, the product of the plastic anisotropy coefficient and the

A Formable-Strengthenable Sheet Steel

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1974
<div class="htmlview paragraph">High-strength cold-rolled sheet steels offer a potential to accomplish weight savings through gage reductions. However, the reduced formability which accompanies increased strength presents difficulties in the application of these steels for sheet metal stampings which require the formability equivalent of deep ...

Sheet Formability of Steels

1990
Abstract Steel sheet is widely used for industrial and consumer products, partly because it is relatively strong, easily joined, and readily available at moderate cost. This article discusses the mechanical properties and formability of steel sheet, the use of circle grid analysis to identify the properties of complicated shapes, and ...

Formability of Sheet Metals

2010
The formability is the capability of sheet metal to undergo plastic deformation to a given shape without defects. The defects have to be considered separately for the fundamental sheet metal forming procedures of deep-drawing and stretching. The difference between these types of stamping procedures is based on the mechanics of the forming process.

Formability and Process Conditions of Magnesium Alloy Sheets

Materials Science Forum, 2005
Comparing the formability with each other, extrusion and various rolling experiments were carried out to make fine-grained AZ31 Mg sheets, and uni-axial tensile tests were carried out at different strain rates and temperatures to investigate the effect of different variables.

Formability of a more randomly textured magnesium alloy sheet: Application of an improved warm sheet formability test

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2010
The warm formability of three sheet magnesium alloys was measured using the OSU formability test adapted for testing at elevated temperatures under isothermal conditions. The adapted test is shown to reliably enforce plane strain tension over a significant fraction of the sample, thus providing an assessment of FLD(0), typically the minimum major ...

Formability Testing of Sheet Metals

2006
AbstractSheet metal forming operations are so diverse in type, extent, and rate that no single test provides an accurate indication of the formability of a material in all situations. This article presents an overview of types of forming, formability problems, and principal methods of measuring deformation. It reviews the effect of materials properties
