Shell Side CFD Analysis of a Model Shell-and-Tube Heat Exchanger

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2018
In the present paper, a model-size shell-and-tube heat exchanger with horizontal baffles is investigated numerically and compared to the measured values using the commercial software SC-Tetra V11. Determination of the heat transfer coefficients for the shell side depends on the type of the flow and the type of the baffles.

Improved Prediction of Shell Side Heat Transfer in Horizontal Evaporative Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers [PDF]

open access: yesHeat Transfer Engineering, 2008
This paper presents an improved prediction method for the heat transfer and pressure drop in the shell side of a horizontal shell and tube evaporator. The results from an experimental test program are used in which a wide range of evaporating two-phase shell side flow data was collected from a TEMA E-shell evaporator.

Shell-side transfer in shell-and-tube heat exchangers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
Local mass transfer coefficients were determined by using the electrochemical technique. A simple model of a heat exchanger with segmental nickel tube joined to p.v.c. rods replaced the exchanger tubes. Measurements were made for both no-Ieakage, semi-leakage and total leakage configurations.

Shell-Side Pressure Drop in the Multi-Baffled Shell-and-Tube Heat Exchangers

open access: yesBulletin of JSME, 1965
The baffle plate is the most important factor in the shell-side pressure drop of the multibaffled shell-and-tube heat exchangers. An experimental equipment which consisted of a shell with baffles but had no tube was constructed, and the pressure drop in it was measured and analyzed. The result was compaped with the pressure drop in an experimental heat

Heat Transfer and Two-Phase Flow during Shell-side Condensation

open access: yesHeat Transfer Engineering, 1984
This paper surveys the evolution of power condenser tube bundle arrangements and examines present-day designs. Condensation heat transfer during shell-side flow is reviewed, including the effects of vapor shear, condensate inundation, noncondensable gases, and enhancement techniques.

CALCULATION OF SIDE ELEMENTS OF A LONG CYLINDRICAL SHELL

open access: yesUrban development and spatial planning
