Bis(trifluoromethyl)disulfide and the EtP4 Phosphazene Base—Formation of a Bench‐Stable [EtP4SCF3]+[SCF3]− Salt

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
The synthesis of a bench‐stable trifluoromethylthiolate‐substituted phosphazenium salt is reported. Reaction of bis(trifluoromethyl)disulfide with the EtP4 phosphazene base furnishes this salt in quantitative yield. The compound features a unique trifluoromethylthiolate‐iminium motif and allows for functionalization of both trifluoromethylthiolate ...

Stable Cyclic Peterson Olefination Intermediates

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
We present the first synthesis and characterization of several stable cyclic Peterson olefination intermediates with four carbon bonded substituents at the silicon. The cyclic 1,2‐oxasiletanide intermediates were synthesized via the reaction of an α‐silyl carbanion with various ketones.

New chalcone compound exhibits microrna-mediated anticancer properties in glioblastoma.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
BackgroundTherapy-resistant glioblastoma constitutes the most lethal adult brain malignancy, bearing extremely poor patients' prognosis. Combinational therapies are accompanied by severe side effects and significant financial burden, highlighting the ...

Examining Phosphatidylethanol (PEth) Formation Rates Within and Between Subjects in Ex Vivo Whole Blood

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
PEth formation rate increased with increasing ethanol concentration with variability between participants but was mostly consistent within‐subject. No relationship was observed between phosphatidylcholine concentrations and PEth formation rates. PEth concentrations should be used to monitor an individual's ethanol use over time, rather than compared ...

Engineering a genetically-encoded SHG chromophore by electrostatic targeting to the membrane

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, 2014
Although second harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy provides unique imaging advantages for voltage imaging and other biological applications, genetically-encoded SHG chromophores remain relatively unexplored.

Comparative performance of risk prediction indices for mortality or readmission following heart failure hospitalization

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1227-1236, April 2025.
Comparative performance of 7 risk prediction indices in patients hospitalized for heart failure. In this cohort of 1206 patients, the LENT index offered the greatest discrimination, calibration, and overall accuracy in predicting 30‐day composite all‐cause mortality or readmission following hospitalization for heart failure.

A systematic scoping review on the consequences of stress-related hyperglycaemia.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
BackgroundStress-related hyperglycaemia (SHG) is commonly seen in acutely ill patients and has been associated with poor outcomes in many studies performed in different acute care settings.

Zinc‐Mediated Photodegradation of Nitrophenols in Aqueous Solution: Devising Environmental Mitigation Strategies With Ultrafast Spectroscopic Insights

open access: yesElectron, EarlyView.
We implement a suite of steady‐state and time‐resolved spectroscopic techniques to elucidate the zinc‐mediated photodegradation of nitrophenols in aqueous solution. From ultrafast electronic spectroscopy of aci‐nitrophenol on femtosecond‐to‐nanosecond timescales to tracking photoproducts with absorption and vibrational signatures (through ground‐state ...

How Does Vulnerability Framing by Microfinance Institutions Leverage Funding Success in Crowdfunding?

open access: yesInternational Journal of Finance &Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study draws on framing theory to investigate how microfinance institutions (MFIs) strategically construct a vulnerability‐oriented organisational identity and how this framing influences their funding decisions during the pre‐campaign phase of prosocial crowdfunding.
