Abstract The welding process introduces heat, which may cause softening in the heat‐affected zone (HAZ) of high‐strength steels (HSS). In welded components such as hollow section joints, this localised reduction in strength can reduce the load‐bearing capacity by promoting early failure of the joint and decreasing plastic design strength.

Weldability of austenitic stainless steel by metal arc welding with different shielding gas
AbstractDuring fusion welding the molten metal is shielded from contact with the atmospheric gas by means of a gaseous flux. The shielding gas prevents weld embrittlement, affects welding quality, because of its influence on filler metal transfer, and has a direct impact on welding costs as well.

Bridging Experiment and Theory to Reveal Compounds in K–Zn(Cd)–Bi Systems
Theoretically predicted compounds are experimentally realized via the facile hydride route, permitting experimental screening of K–Zn–Bi and “empty” K–Cd–Bi systems. The high‐yield synthesis has enabled a study of crystal and electronic structure, thermal stability, and magnetic properties of previously reported KZnBi, KZn2Bi2, and novel KCdBi and ...
