Aerobactin genes in Shigella spp [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1984
Aerobactin, a hydroxamate iron transport compound, is synthesized by some, but not all, Shigella species. Conjugation and hybridization studies indicated that the genes for the synthesis and transport of aerobactin are linked and are found on the chromosome of Shigella flexneri, S. boydii, and S. sonnei. The genes were not found in S. dysenteriae.

Comparison of the antibiotic resistance patterns among Shigella species isolated from pediatric hospital between 1995-1999 and 2009-2013 in North-West of Iran [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Analytical Research in Clinical Medicine, 2014
Introduction: This study was conducted to determine the frequency and pattern of antimicrobial susceptibility of Shigella spp. isolated from pediatric hospital in two different time periods between March 1995 to March 1999 and March 2009 to March 2013 in

Antimicrobial Resistance of Shigella spp. isolated in the State of Pará, Brazil Resistência Antimicrobiana de Shigella spp. isoladas no Estado do Pará

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, 2011
INTRODUCTION: Shigella spp. are Gram-negative, nonsporulating, rod-shaped bacteria that belong to the family Enterobacteriaceae and are responsible for shigellosis or bacillary dysentery, an important cause of worldwide morbidity and mortality.

Susceptibility antibiotic screening reveals high rates of multidrug resistance of Salmonella, Shigella and Campylobacter in HIV infected and uninfected patients from Mozambique

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2023
Background Antibacterial resistance is a growing concern worldwide, including in Mozambique. Diarrhea is an important cause of mortality in Mozambique, yet few local studies have reported on the resistance of bacterial pathogens in this context ...

Molecular Detection and Multidrug Resistance of Shigella spp. Isolated from Wild Waterfowl and Migratory Birds in Bangladesh

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine International, 2023
Birds, especially wild waterfowl and migratory birds have the potential to carry antibiotic-resistant bacteria, but their role in the dissemination of these resistant pathogens is still neglected in Bangladesh.

The emergence and fate of horizontally acquired genes in Escherichia coli [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Bacterial species, and even strains within species, can vary greatly in their gene contents and metabolic capabilities. We examine the evolution of this diversity by assessing the distribution and ancestry of each gene in 13 sequenced isolates of ...
