Development of adjuvanted recombinant zoster vaccine and its implications for shingles prevention

open access: yesExpert Review of Vaccines, 2018
Introduction: GSK has developed a two-dose adjuvanted recombinant zoster vaccine (Shingrix, RZV) to protect people aged ≥50 years (50+) against herpes zoster (HZ) and its complications.

Targeting the AKT/mTOR pathway attenuates the metastatic potential of colorectal carcinoma circulating tumor cells in a murine xenotransplantation model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dual targeting of AKT and mTOR using MK2206 and RAD001 reduces tumor burden in an intracardiac colon cancer circulating tumor cell xenotransplantation model. Analysis of AKT isoform‐specific knockdowns in CTC‐MCC‐41 reveals differentially regulated proteins and phospho‐proteins by liquid chromatography coupled mass spectrometry. Circulating tumor cells

New materials for fireplace logs [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
Fibrous insulation and refractory concrete are used for logs as well as fireproof walls, incinerator bricks, planters, and roof shingles. Insulation is lighter and more shock resistant than fireclay.

A compendium of Caenorhabditis elegans regulatory transcription factors: a resource for mapping transcription regulatory networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Background Transcription regulatory networks are composed of interactions between transcription factors and their target genes. Whereas unicellular networks have been studied extensively, metazoan transcription regulatory networks remain largely ...

Loss of proton‐sensing GPR4 reduces tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
G protein‐coupled receptor 4 (GPR4) is a pH‐sensing receptor activated by acidic pH. GPR4 expression is increased in patients with inflammatory bowel disease who are at high risk of developing colorectal cancer. In mouse models, loss of GPR4 attenuated tumor progression. This correlated with increased IL2 and natural killer cell activity.

〔報告〕こけら屋根に用いた銅板の防腐効果について [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The preservative effect of copper plates against the decay of wooden shingles used for a traditional style roof was studied. Copper (Cu)plates sheeted under wooden shingles are expected to be a source of Cu elements when the shingles and plates are ...

Genomics‐led approach to drug testing in models of undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
GA text Genomic data from undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma patients and preclinical models were used to inform a targeted drug screen. Selected compounds were tested in 2D and 3D cultures of UPS cell lines. A combination of trametinib and infigratinib was synergistic in the majority of UPS cell lines tested, which was further confirmed in an ex ...

Shingles & Pneumococcal Vaccines: Recommendations for Older Adults [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
As the immune system tends to weaken over time, patients aged 50+ begin having increased risk for certain potentially preventable diseases, especially shingles and pneumonia.

Efficiently decoding strings from their shingles [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
Determining whether an unordered collection of overlapping substrings (called shingles) can be uniquely decoded into a consistent string is a problem that lies within the foundation of a broad assortment of disciplines ranging from networking and information theory through cryptography and even genetic engineering and linguistics.

The evolution of pebble size and shape in space and time [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We propose a mathematical model which suggests that the two main geological observations about shingle beaches, i.e. the emergence of predominant pebble size ratios and strong segregation by size are interrelated. Our model is a based on a system of ODEs called the box equations, describing the evolution of pebble ratios.
