Deep-water measurements of container ship radiated noise signatures and directionality [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2017
Underwater radiated noise from merchant ships was measured opportunistically from multiple spatial aspects to estimate signature source levels and directionality. Transiting ships were tracked via the Automatic Identification System in a shipping lane while acoustic pressure was measured at the ships' keel and beam aspects.

Ship propeller side effects: pressure pulses and radiated noise

open access: yes, 2016
The present paper deals with the side effects of propellers cavitation, i.e. pressure pulses and radiated noise. These effects are gaining more and more importance for commercial ships for different reasons.

Underwater Acoustic Target Recognition Based on Attention Residual Network

open access: yesEntropy, 2022
Underwater acoustic target recognition is very complex due to the lack of labeled data sets, the complexity of the marine environment, and the interference of background noise.

A Two‐Stage Characterization Pipeline and Open‐Source Framework for Reproducible Tactile Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
The same soft tactile sensor returns different numbers when embodied in different robots. This is an Embodiment Gap that no shared framework currently captures transparently. A two‐stage characterization pipeline, paired with a FAIR open‐source digital datasheet, decouples intrinsic sensor behavior from embodiment effects and condenses cross‐laboratory

In‐vitro puncture experiment using alligator teeth tracks the formation of dental microwear and its association with hardness of the diet

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract With the development of dental microwear texture analysis (DMTA), there has been an increasing application of DMTA for dietary estimation in extant and fossil reptiles, including dinosaurs. While numerous feeding experiments exist for herbivorous mammals, knowledge remains limited for carnivorous reptiles. This study aimed to qualitatively and

Adaptive Genomic Divergence Across Altitudes in Capsella bursa‐pastoris

open access: yesBiological Diversity, EarlyView.
Genomic divergence was observed between high‐altitude and low‐altitude populations of Capsella bursa‐pastoris in China, consistent with an important role of ecological factors. Candidate adaptive loci associated with enhanced energy metabolism, photoprotection, and growth plasticity under altitudinal stress were identified.

From Ship to Shore: A Review of Vessel‐To‐Grid Bidirectional Charging for Sustainable Maritime Transport

open access: yesEcoEnergy, EarlyView.
As maritime transport electrifies, bidirectional charging (V2G) offers a dual‐purpose solution for energy resilience and economic viability. This work identifies key technological advancements and lifecycle challenges utilizing practical case studies to demonstrate how V2G systems can drive decarbonization and grid stability in the marine sector ...

Analysis of the Underwater Radiated Noise Generated by Hull Vibrations of the Ships

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Shipping traffic is recognised as the main man-noise source of the anthropogenic noise generated in the marine environment. The underwater acoustic pollution is increased due to the increment of the human activity at seas supposing a threat for marine ...

Uncertainty assessment for a novel optically shallow water radiometric acquisition platform

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract We present a novel motorized platform, a custom‐built jet‐ski designed for acoustic and radiometric measurements in optically shallow coastal waters. This platform integrates in‐water radiometers with single‐beam and multi‐beam acoustic sensors, along with a suite of active and passive instruments (conductivity‐temperature‐depth, fluorescence,
