"Permeating all community activities"? Comparing events and programming in Westminster and Tower Hamlets public libraries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A comparative study of events and programming in two London public library services, Westminster and Tower Hamlets, is reported. The two services offer the same proportion of 'engagement' programming.

Characterization of Microplastics in Human Gastric Cancer and Control Tissues and Analysis of Associated Genetic Features

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study characterizes the presence of microplastics in human normal gastric, para‐tumor, and gastric tumor tissue and confirms the association between microplastic exposure and lymph node metastasis in gastric cancer. This study explores the transcriptomic changes induced by microplastic exposure, laying the foundation for further investigation into

Role of Liquid Composition in the Transient Liquid Assisted Growth of Superconducting YBa2Cu3O7‐δ Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The Y supersaturation in the [Ba‐Cu(I/II)‐O] transient liquid composition is the driving force toward YBCO nucleation and growth in TLAG. Tuning the initial (Ba:Cu) molar ratio in the ink composition determines the YBCO epitaxial nucleation through supersaturation control.

Artificial Symbiosis for Bulk Production of Bacterial Cellulose Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Co‐cultivation of the cellulose‐producing bacterium with the microalga enables bulk formation of bacterial cellulose under static incubation, with photosynthetically active oxygen‐generating sites throughout the medium. This symbiotic platform supports 3D cellulosic constructs with geometries dictated by the vessel shape.

Advanced Porous Materials for Maritime Carbon Capture

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Carbon capture from emission sources, such as marine vessels, has attracted significant attention over the years. To achieve this goal, sorbents such as metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), porous polymer networks (PPNs), covalent organic frameworks (COFs), and their post‐synthetic modifications are currently being explored.

Estimation of ship manoeuvring characteristics in the conceptual design stage [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
In relation to the problems of the maritime safety, the diversification in ship types or the growth in ship sizes has enhanced the significance of manoeuvrability as one of the fundamental performances of ships.

Electrically Tunable Friction: From Sticky to Slippery with Ionic Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates electrically tunable friction “from sticky to slippery” using ionic hydrogels, achieving reversible more‐than‐fifty‐fold modulation without liquid lubricants. An electric field extracts a salt‐rich interfacial layer that dramatically reduces friction.
