Lost Silence: An emergency response early detection service through continuous processing of telecommunication data streams

open access: yes, 2019
Early detection of significant traumatic events, e.g. a terrorist attack or a ship capsizing, is important to ensure that a prompt emergency response can occur.

Leveraging synthetic imagery for collision-at-sea avoidance

open access: yes, 2018
Maritime collisions involving multiple ships are considered rare, but in 2017 several United States Navy vessels were involved in fatal at-sea collisions that resulted in the death of seventeen American Servicemembers.

Validating Targets Detected by SAR Ship Detection Engines

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Remote Sensing, 2017
Validating detected targets by ship detection engines without ground-truth data is a very challenging task and this is addressed in this article. Targets detected in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery are validated against automatic identification system (AIS) messages and using visual assessment procedures.

Advanced Technologies for Characterizing and Detecting Battery Thermal Failure: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Illustration of advanced characterization techniques to predict battery thermal failure. ABSTRACT Energy storage is essential in accelerating the global transition toward clean and sustainable energy across various sectors. Lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) have become increasingly significant for energy storage due to their high energy density, low ...

Ellipse Polar Encoding for Oriented SAR Ship Detection

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
Ship detection in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images using deep neural networks often relies on horizontal bounding box, which fail to capture ship orientation and aspect ratio accurately.

Trained Memory of Uterine Macrophages Improves Subsequent Pregnancy Outcomes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies that pregnancy imprints a durable, pregnancy‐specific form of trained immune memory in uterine macrophages, marked by the emergence of LILRB3+/PIR‐B+ cells that expand across gestations, acquire a tolerogenic and metabolically rewired phenotype, and actively protect against inflammatory pregnancy loss in mice.

A Densely Connected End-to-End Neural Network for Multiscale and Multiscene SAR Ship Detection

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images have been widely used for ship monitoring. The traditional methods of SAR ship detection are difficult to detect small scale ships and avoid the interference of inshore complex background.

The NOMAD system : expectation-based detection and correction of errors during understanding of syntactically and semantically ill-formed text [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
Most large text-understanding systems have been designed under the assumption that the input text will be in reasonably "neat" form (for example, newspaper stories and other edited texts).

In Situ Polyurea Integration for Self‐Healing, Durable Transparent Electromagnetic‐Interference Shielding Film

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A steric‐hindrance molecular engineering strategy uses dimethyl maleate (DMM) to convert poly(1,4‐butanediol) bis(4‐aminobenzoate) (PBDAB) into a precursor with reduced reactivity via Michael addition, thereby retarding the curing process to form a transparent, ultraflexible, and self‐healable secondary‑amine polyurea (PuSA) with a crosslinked network.

DancingLines: An Analytical Scheme to Depict Cross-Platform Event Popularity

open access: yes, 2017
Nowadays, events usually burst and are propagated online through multiple modern media like social networks and search engines. There exists various research discussing the event dissemination trends on individual medium, while few studies focus on event
