Shipping charges and shipping-charge skepticism: Implications for direct marketers’ pricing formats

Journal of Interactive Marketing, 2005
The purpose of this research is to develop a theoretical framework for understanding consumer response to direct marketers’ pricing formats based on shoppers'perceptions of fairness. As part of this effort, we introduce an individual difference variable we call shipping-charge skepticism. An experiment is conducted ( n = 189) to examine whether offers

On the directional stability of ships

International Shipbuilding Progress, 1980
A nonlinear second order ordinary differential equation in yaw rate is used to study the directional stability of a surface ship when the ship moves with randomly varying forward speed. Randomly varying forward speed may be caused by surge motion in random following (or oblique) waves.

Wireless direction-finding in steel ships

Journal of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1923
The problems of direction-finding which are peculiar to ships are discussed. A method of regarding the action of a ship on wireless waves is given, as well as means of correcting for the deviations so produced. The precautions to be observed in the calibration of a ship direction-finder are indicated.

Developing direct shipping across the Taiwan Straits

Marine Policy, 2006
Abstract Direct shipping across the Taiwan Straits has been restricted since 1949 for political reasons. Goods for cross-Straits trade must be transshipped via a third place, such as Hong Kong or a Japanese port. Since commercial activities across the Straits have become increasingly prosperous in recent years, the demand for direct shipping across ...

Direct Communication with Radar Identified Shipping

Journal of Navigation, 1964
When radar is used at sea as an aid to collision avoidance, the necessary information has to be obtained by maintaining a plot, which, however, can only offer the average course and speed over a passed time. It is not a reliable prediction of future actions, so that to make too long an extrapolation from a plot is hazardous.

Ship Motion Pattern Directed VTOL Letdown Guidance

1983 American Control Conference, 1983
This paper examines ship motion pattern directed letdown guidance strategies for landing a VTOL aircraft onboard a small aviation ship under adverse environmental conditions. Off-line computer simulation of the shipboard landing task is utilized for assessing the relative merits of the proposed guidance schemes.

Deriving Directional Wave Spectra from Ship Motions

Offshore Technology Conference Asia, 2018
Abstract The ability to derive the directional wave spectra directly from the motions of a floating facility can be of significant value to offshore industry, particularly for sites where reliable observations are not available. This study employs new full-scale measurements of the dynamic motions of an operating drillship to evaluate ...

Medium-frequency direction-finding in H.M. ships

Journal of the Institution of Electrical Engineers - Part IIIA: Radiocommunication, 1947
In Part 1 of the paper the present state of medium-frequency direction-finding in H.M. ships is reviewed. There have been no fundamental changes in the system employed in recent years. The standard method in use is that of a screened crossed-loop aerial with low-capacitance screened feeder cables connected to a radiogoniometer and a receiver, using ...
