Growth of Omnichannel Grocery Retailing and Food Prices

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper examines the effects of the growth of omnichannel grocery retailing on food prices. We first develop a conceptual model of consumer choice and retailer pricing that allows us to evaluate changes in equilibrium prices, quantities, and profits with online channel growth and alternative pricing strategies.

Simulation of Ship Movement after Steering System Failure to Determine the Worst Case Scenario of Grounding

open access: yesPromet (Zagreb), 2013
Ship grounding is one of the primary maritime navigation casualties and a result of an error made by the navigating officer, of a technical failure on vital ship equipment or of force majeure.

An Elementary Treatment of the Reverse Sprinkler

open access: yes, 2004
We discuss the reverse sprinkler problem: How does a sprinkler turn when submerged and made to suck in water? We propose a solution that requires only a knowledge of mechanics and fluid dynamics at the introductory university level.

Return and Volatility Spillovers Among Major Cotton Markets

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study explores return and volatility transmission among major cotton markets. Several events have disrupted cotton supply and demand in recent years, leading to heightened price volatility and significant shifts in market interconnections.

Experimental investigation of wave-induced motions of an obliquely moving ship [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The lateral drift appears due to the effects of wind forces and/or wave drifting forces for a ship sailing in actual sea. The effects of wind forces and / or wave drifting forces in views of lateral drift for ship moving with certain forward speed have ...

AI in chemical engineering: From promise to practice

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Artificial intelligence (AI) in chemical engineering has moved from promise to practice: physics‐aware (gray‐box) models are gaining traction, reinforcement learning complements model predictive control (MPC), and generative AI powers documentation, digitization, and safety workflows.

Numerical Investigation of Oblique Currents’ Effects on the Hydrodynamic Characteristics of Ships in Restricted Waters

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The influence of oblique currents in narrow and shallow channels causes the fluid flow around ships to become complex. To analyze the hydrodynamic characteristics of a ship in such channels, it is essential to examine the influence of oblique currents on

What is Godly Speech? (Chapter 7 of Redeeming How We Talk: Discover How Communication Fuels Our Growth, Shapes Our Relationships, and Changes Our Lives)

open access: yes, 2018
Excerpt: The Bible makes it clear that the tongue has tremendous power. James compares it to a rudder, which steers a whole ship. A rudder is only a fraction of the size of the boat it steers. While the rudder may have the power to steer an entire ship,

Domain‐Aware Implicit Network for Arbitrary‐Scale Remote Sensing Image Super‐Resolution

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Although existing arbitrary‐scale image super‐resolution methods are flexible to reconstruct images with arbitrary scales, the characteristic of training distribution is neglected that there exists domain shift between samples of various scales. In this work, a Domain‐Aware Implicit Network (DAIN) is proposed to handle it from the perspective of domain

Automatic Determination of Quasicrystalline Patterns from Microscopy Images

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This work introduces a user‐friendly machine learning tool to automatically extract and visualize quasicrystalline tiling patterns from atomically resolved microscopy images. It uses feature clustering, nearest‐neighbor analysis, and support vector machines. The method is broadly applicable to various quasicrystalline systems and is released as part of
