Functional models from limited data: A parametric and multimodal approach to anatomy and 3D kinematics of feeding in basking sharks (Cetorhinus maximus)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Basking sharks, Cetorhinus maximus (Gunnerus, Brugden [Squalus maximus], Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskabs Skrifter, 1765, vol. 3, pp. 33–49), feed by gaping their mouths and gill slits, greatly reorienting their cranial skeletons to filter food from water.

Different shape but the same topographical complexity—The lingual gross anatomy of the Saimaa (Pusa saimensis) and Baltic ringed seals (Pusa hispida botnica)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Despite the distinctly different shapes of their tongues, the tongue gross anatomy of Saimaa ringed seal closely resembled that of Baltic ringed seal. There were no differences in the extrinsic and intrinsic tongue muscles or their associated vascularization and innervation between Saimaa and Baltic ringed seals.

Calculation and Analysis of Rolling Hydrodynamic Coefficients of Free-Flooding Ship Based on CFD

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
As free-flooding ships are a type of vessel with openings on their hull surfaces, accurately calculating and analyzing their roll hydrodynamic coefficients is of great significance for ship motion prediction.

Computer aided simulation for non-linear model of ship motion

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 1994
The ship motion is simulated on computer by non-linear model of small vibration and strong non-linear model. The results are compared between two models. The influences of different parameters to the ship motion are considered.

A Data-Driven Method for Ship Motion Forecast

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Accurate forecasting of ship motion is of great significance for ensuring maritime operational safety and working efficiency. A data-driven ship motion forecast method is proposed in this paper, aiming at the problems of low generalization of a single ...

Optimizing Strategies for Non‐Invasive Prospection of Settlements in the Intertidal Zone: A Case Study From the Centre of the Drowned Medieval Village of Tolsende (Scheldt Estuary, the Netherlands)

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Medieval and early modern drowned villages in the intertidal zone of the Scheldt estuary (the Netherlands) constitute intriguing yet largely understudied components of north‐western Europe's underwater cultural heritage. Despite their high archaeological potential as time capsules of past settlement landscapes, research has remained limited ...

Analysis of Image Domain Characteristics of Maritime Rotating Ships for Spaceborne Multichannel SAR

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Ship targets are usually high-value targets, and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) moving ship indication is of great importance in maritime traffic monitoring.

Scanning Parametric Sediment Echosounder as Tool for Underwater Archaeological Prospection

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Underwater cultural heritage 3D prospection techniques, especially for remains that are partly buried in the ground, are only very rarely available and often can only be applied with considerable technical effort. To overcome this limitation, we evaluate a methodological adaption of widely used and available single channel parametric sediment ...

Multi‐Omic Profiling Reveals Immune Cell Priming Signature Linked to Lupus Prognosis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a multiorgan disease with widespread immune dysregulation and significant unmet clinical need. Blood‐based gene expression studies have advanced our understanding of SLE pathogenesis but may overlook critical tissue‐specific mechanisms that drive disease heterogeneity and progression.

Ship Motion Parameter Estimation and Refocusing Method Based on Minimization of Position Offset in Multiview Missile-Borne SAR Images

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
Motion compensation helps mitigate the defocusing effects observed in ship synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images caused by ship’s noncooperative motion, and its effectiveness depends on the accuracy of motion parameter estimation.
