Ship motion modeling and simulation in Ship Handling Simulator
2012 International Conference on Audio, Language and Image Processing, 2012For developed irregular waves, wave heights or wave amplitudes are gained using the wave spectrums. Based on the hypothesis of Froude-Krylov, ship shape is predigested box. Wave forces and moments to ship motion can be calculated. They are added in the motion mathematical models, and ship six degrees of freedom mathematical models are given.

Mechanics of sailing ship motion
Mathematica Applicanda, 2015The Author, looking into the rules defining the sailing ship efficiency, delineates a number of mathematical equations that are proved in practice to be accurate. The equation of the sailing ship efficiency in a downwind sector is similar to the curves from Wulff grid, while the equation in an windward sector is similar to the fourth degree curve, not ...

Limiting Ship Motions for Small Ships in Heavy Seas
Ocean Engineering, 1997Abstract This paper presents two independent methodologies for defining the seakeeping performance of vessels in various sea conditions. The results of a unique series of sea trials are compared to a new time domain computer program (FREDYN) that predicts ship performance and dangerous operating conditions in extreme seas.

Evacuation from ships : account for ship motion
1999A transnational BriteEuram programme on evacuation of passengers from ships is presented. Recent disasters on ferries of the roll-on/roll-off type have led to higher requirements for safety. These requirements are formulated in terms of overall performance rather than performance of a number of isolated components.

Forces Related to Motions of Moored Ships/ Analytical Methods of Moored Ship Motions
1988The behaviour of moored ships in harbours, coastal areas or offshore is extremely complex, due to nonlinearities and dynamic effects. It is of vital importance to have methods available by which the behaviour of the moored ship can be predicted in the design stage, in order to determine the extreme loads in the worst conditions and to assess the ...

The technical feasibility of roll motion control devices has been amply demonstrated for over 100 years. Performance, however, can still fall short of expectations because of deciencies in control system designs, which have proven to be far from trivial due to fundamental performance limitations.

Fluid Dynamics and Ship Motion
2014This chapter is a brief introduction to the very difficult problem of ship motion. The difficulties of this problem are due to the many factors determining the behavior of a ship during the navigation: the form of the ship, the sea waves, the wind action, etc.
