Measurement of radiated ship noise
Proceedings of Meetings on Acoustics, 2013A methodology is presented for measuring the radiated noise from a ship in shallow water, and deriving the source level spectrum. The method is applied to the measurement of dredgers in UK waters, vessels which are restricted to shallow water during aggregate extraction.

Distracted decision makers: ship noise and predation risk change shell choice in hermit crabs
Behavioral Ecology, 2019Human-induced rapid environmental change such as noise pollution alters the ability of animals to integrate information cues. Many studies focus on how noise impacts single sensory channels but in reality animals rely on multimodal sources of ...

NOISE MEASUREMENTS ABOARD SHIP
Journal of the American Society for Naval Engineers, 1938With the increasing interest which engineers are feeling in the matter of noise and its control, accurate comparative and relative measurement of noise has become the real crux of the problem. While the human ear is a marvelous instrument, it differs widely in different people, and even in the same person the two ears will usually vary considerably in ...

Recognizing the State of Motion by Ship-Radiated Noise Using Time-Frequency Swin-Transformer
IEEE Journal of Oceanic EngineeringShip-radiated noise recognition is an essential but complex task in the construction of marine information systems and marine scientific research. Ambient noise, unstable frequency shifts, and irregular multipath interference make it complicated to ...

Ship-Radiated Noise Separation in Underwater Acoustic Environments Using a Deep Time-Domain Network
Journal of Marine Science and EngineeringShip-radiated noise separation is critical in both military and economic domains. However, due to the complex underwater environments with multiple noise sources and reverberation, separating ship-radiated noise poses a significant challenge ...

IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, 2005
The rapid increase in world shipping results in an increase in low-frequency ambient noise at an average rate of about 1/2 dB per year. During the past 10 years there has been a virtual revolution in the sizes and speeds of merchant ships, resulting in significant increases in the noise radiated by the average ship. This trend is continuing.

Underwater radiated noise from modern commercial ships
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2012Underwater radiated noise measurements for seven types of modern commercial ships during normal operating conditions are presented. Calibrated acoustic data (<1000 Hz) from an autonomous seafloor-mounted acoustic recorder were combined with ship passage information from the Automatic Identification System.

Implementation of AUV and ship noise for link quality evaluation in the DESERT underwater framework
Workshop/Conference on Underwater Networks & Systems, 2018The underwater acoustic channel exhibits many challenges for communications. Since the underwater environment is becoming crowded with both static and mobile users, additional noise is produced in the channel by the physical components of the nodes.

Ship-radiated noise-field characterization
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1997Sonobuoy measurements of merchant ships were processed for mean levels and fluctuation dynamics of the broadband and line components from a large database of ships. Direct path results are reported. The mean levels are compared with various ship source level models.
