Wave effects on the turning ability of an ultra large container ship in shallow water [PDF]
The influence of waves on ship behaviour can lead to hazardous scenarios which put at risk the ship, the crew and the surroundings. For this reason, investigating the effect of waves on manoeuvring is of relevant interest.

AbstractShip wakes are more distinct than the hulls and can be visually observed in optical images. In this paper the wakes of 2836 ships in 32 optical images with different resolutions are observed and summarized. The ships are divided into four types according to the hull and wake features: fishing vessels, motorboats, cargo ships, and warships.

Time-frequency analysis of ship wave patterns in shallow water: modelling and experiments
A spectrogram of a ship wake is a heat map that visualises the time-dependent frequency spectrum of surface height measurements taken at a single point as the ship travels by.

The interaction of spatially modulated vortex pairs with free surfaces [PDF]
Spatially modulated vortex pairs were generated below a free surface by two counter-rotating flaps whose edges approximate a sinusoid. The surface interactions of the vertically approaching vortex pairs were visualized by the shadowgraph technique.

Wake Distribution of Full Ships
This paper deals with the problem on flow fields around the stern of full ship forms and the estimation of ship wake from model data. The first part of the paper concerns the measurements of wake in full models and the discussions on the characteristics of flow fields.

The prediction of wake wash in the towing tank [PDF]
The wash or ship-generated waves from high speed craft has become a common subject in research and development of marine transportation. Since some time now the wake wash of high speed craft has become a problem in particular on inland or confined ...
