Direct measurement of the cross-shock electric potential at low plasma $β$, quasi-perpendicular bow shocks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
We use the Cluster EFW experiment to measure the cross-shock electric field at ten low $\beta$, quasi-perpendicular supercritical bow shock crossings on March 31, 2001. The electric field data are Lorentz-tranformed to a Normal Incidence frame (NIF), in which the incoming solar wind velocity is aligned with the shock normal.

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors and Cardiovascular Adverse Events

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract In the last years, we assisted to a tremendous increase in therapeutic options for the management of cancers, with immunotherapy at the forefront of this innovation. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been developed to enhance the activity of the immune system against cancer cells (1) and the number of approvals for ICIs has rapidly ...

Cardiogenic shock post acute myocardial infarction associated with a non reperfusion coronary artery phenomenon

open access: yesBioscience Journal, 2017
Cardiogenic shock is a state of systemic tissue hypoperfusion resulting from a primary cardiac dysfunction. When it occurs simultaneously to a non reperfusion coronary artery phenomenon, prognosis worsens and mortality chances increases.

Management of Mechanical Ventilation in Decompensated Heart Failure. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Mechanical ventilation (MV) is a life-saving intervention for respiratory failure, including decompensated congestive heart failure. MV can reduce ventricular preload and afterload, decrease extra-vascular lung water, and decrease the work of breathing ...

Multicentre comparison of various microaxial pump devices as a bridge to durable assist device implantation

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
In the context of patients with severe heart failure, it is crucial to ensure adequate preconditioning before considering the implantation of dLVAD. Although several types of mechanical circulatory assist devices are available and all offer a significant advantage, the present study suggests that the higher the flow rate provided by the Impella®, the ...

Early administration of SGLT2 inhibitors in hospitalized patients: A practical guidance from the current evidence

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Sodium‐glucose cotransporter‐2 (SGLT2) inhibitors represent one of the main cornerstones of heart failure treatment. Nevertheless, while the cardiovascular beneficial effects of these drugs have been clearly demonstrated by several clinical trials, in clinical practice, it remains challenging to identify the appropriate timing to start SGLT2 ...

Circulating levels of microRNA 423-5p are associated with 90 day mortality in cardiogenic shock [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Aims The role of microRNAs has not been studied in cardiogenic shock. We examined the potential role of miR-423-5p level to predict mortality and associations of miR-423-5p with prognostic markers in cardiogenic shock.

Percutaneous mechanical circulatory support for acute right heart failure: A practical approach

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
This is an overview of percutaneous mechanical circulatory support options for acute right heart failure, illustrating key clinical scenarios, device types, and principles of tailored device selection based on haemodynamics and underlying pathology. Abstract Acute right heart failure (RHF) represents a critical entity with significant morbidity and ...

Cardiogenic shock: do not forget the possibility of Kawasaki disease

open access: yesThe Turkish Journal of Pediatrics, 2012
We report the case of a six-year-old boy who presented with cardiogenic shock due to Kawasaki disease (KD). He was misdiagnosed at first as septic shock.
