Cardiogenic shock in a neonate [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ Case Reports, 2013
We describe a case of a healthy male full-term neonate, 21 days old, admitted to the emergency room, presenting a severe cardiovascular collapse with an initial sinus rhythm. The first diagnostic hypothesis was of septic shock, having antibiotics, fluid resuscitation, inotropic drugs and ventilatory support started immediately.

Clinical profile, short and long‐term outcomes of non‐ischaemic cardiogenic shock: A FRENSHOCK sub‐analysis

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims Although predominant in routine practice, non‐ischaemic cardiogenic shock (NICS) remains underrepresented in past studies, mainly focused on ischaemic cardiogenic shock (CS). This study aims to describe the current NICS picture and define its independent correlates of short‐ and long‐term outcomes.

Influenza B presenting as cardiogenic shock and progressing to multiorgan failure: A case report

open access: yesIDCases, 2022
Influenza induced cardiogenic shock is rare and the majority of reported cases are a result of Influenza A myocarditis. We describe a patient with Influenza B who developed myocarditis and cardiogenic shock, with no known pre-existing heart disease.

Critical hemodynamic therapy oriented resuscitation helping reduce lung water production and improve survival

open access: yesChinese Medical Journal, 2019
. Background. Increased extravascular lung water (EVLW) in shock is common in the critically ill patients. This study aimed to explore the effect of cardiac output (CO) on EVLW and its relevant influence on prognosis. Methods. The hemodynamic data of 428

Predictors of In-hospital Mortality in Cardiogenic Shock Patients on Vasoactive or Inotropic Support

open access: yesClinical Medicine Insights: Cardiology, 2021
Background: Though controversial, the short-duration in-patient use of inotropes in cardiogenic shock (CS) remain an ACC/AHA Class IIa indication, and are frequently used in the initial treatment of CS.

Fundamentals of Non-relativistic Collisionless Shock Physics: I. The Shock Problem [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
The problem of collisionless shocks is posed as the problem of understanding how in a completely collisionless streaming high-temperature plasma shocks can develop at all, forming discontinuous transition layers of thickness much less than any collisional mean free path length. The history of shock research is briefly reviewed.

Long‐term outcomes of electrical storm patients listed for urgent heart transplantation but not transplanted acutely

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims Refractory electrical storm (ES) is a life‐threatening condition in which heart transplantation (HTx) can be proposed. Nevertheless, the shortage of donors and subsequent outcomes question its place as a rescue strategy. We aim to describe the prognosis of ES patients listed for HTx but not transplanted.

Blood glucose and lactate levels as early predictive markers in patients presenting with cardiogenic shock: A retrospective cohort study.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Lactate and glucose are widely used biochemical parameters in current predictive risk scores for cardiogenic shock. Data regarding the relationship between lactate and glucose levels in cardiogenic shock are limited. Thus, we aimed to analyze glucose and

Physics of collisionless shocks - theory and simulation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Collisionless shocks occur in various fields of physics. In the context of space and astrophysics they have been investigated for many decades. However, a thorough understanding of shock formation and particle acceleration is still missing. Collisionless shocks can be distinguished into electromagnetic and electrostatic shocks.
