The Role of the Physical Environment in Culture Shock

Environment and Behavior, 1997
The concept of place attachment is examined within the context of a between-country migration situation, that of immigrants from the former Soviet Union to Israel. The study hypothesized that place attachment to Israel would be related to the immigrants motive for migrating to Israel and to the perceived differences between their physical environment ...

Bow shock protons in the lunar environment

The Moon, 1975
Protons from the earth's bow shock are observed by the suprathermal ion detector experiment (SIDE) in two regions of the lunar orbit. The dawn region begins at the dawn-side bow-shock crossing and ends about 5 days later, the dusk region begins at about 2 days prior to entering the dusk-side magnetosheath and ends at the inbound bow-shock crossing ...

A viscous-shock-layer analysis of the Martian aerothermal environment

26th Thermophysics Conference, 1991
Surface heating and flow field results for the stagnation region of a planetary exploration vehicle entering the Martian atmosphere are presented. Solutions for the high-energy viscous flow fields with complete radiative heating are derived from a viscous-shock-layer analysis for laminar flow under chemical equilibrium conditions.

Shock Synthesis of Amino Acids in Simulated Primitive Environments

Science, 1970
A mixture of gases roughly simulating the primitive terrestrial atmosphere has been subjected to shock heating followed by a rapid thermal quench. Under strictly homogeneous conditions there is a very high efficiency of 5 × 10 10 molecules per erg of shock-injected energy for production of alpha-amino acids ...

Home Environment to Culture Shock

2017
Recent studies are concerned with how to get more low-income students onto America’s elite campuses, yet there is little discussion about what life is like for these students after they gain admission. This chapter addresses the culture shock that high-achieving, low-income students experience on an elite campus.

The Reliability of a Cantilever with a Touched Tip in Shock Environments

2006 7th International Conference on Electronic Packaging Technology, 2006
To establish an integrated theoretical model for the evaluation of dynamical reliability of a MEMS cantilever, the mechanical response of the cantilever with tip touch substrate to shock is analyzed. Because the difficulty in describing the dynamical response dealing with touch behavior.

Optimizing Tensegrity Structures for Variable Shock Environments

ASME 2024 Conference on Smart Materials, Adaptive Structures and Intelligent Systems
Abstract Determining the sizing of a protection system for a given shock environment is challenging. The sizing depends on several key factors, such as the mass of the payload, the maximum acceleration the payload can experience, the velocity of the system, and the mass of the actual system.
