Shock propagation in a complex laminate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The shock response of a complex laminate has been investigated using a single stage gas gun, with manganin pressure gauges employed to investigate the shock profile. The complex laminate investigated was known by the acronym TWCP and is a tape wrapped

DNAJC24 is a potential therapeutic target in hepatocellular carcinoma through affecting ammonia metabolism

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2022
Evolutionarily conserved heat shock proteins are involved in the heat shock response of cells in response to changes in the external environment. In normal tissues, heat shock proteins can help cells survive in a rapidly changing environment.

Hyperosmotic stress‐induced redistribution of pre‐mRNA cleavage factor I subunits is associated with shifts in alternative polyadenylation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Hyperosmotic stress triggers the relocation of the CFIm complex from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. This shift creates a nuclear ‘stoichiometric bottleneck’, limiting CFIm availability for mRNA processing. Consequently, specific mRNAs like NUDT21 and DICER1 undergo targeted 3′UTR shortening, demonstrating how spatial protein dynamics drive rapid ...

Ship Shock Trial Simulation of USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81): Modeling and Simulation Strategy and Surrounding Fluid Volume Effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
During World War II many surface combatants were damaged or severely crippled by close-proximity underwater explosions from ordnance that had actually missed their target.

Response Analysis and Damping Parameter Identification of Stiffened Plates Under Shock Environment

open access: yesAerospace
Stiffened plate structures widely used in military aircraft are frequently subjected to severe shock environments, such as those generated by gunfire or explosive blasts, which can significantly compromise the integrity and reliability of onboard ...

Effect of terahertz irradiation on DNA damage repair in living cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated the effect of terahertz (THz) wave irradiation on DNA double‐strand break (DSB) repair in living cells. We found that THz irradiation enhanced DSB repair at specific frequencies, whereas heat treatment inhibited it, indicating that this effect is nonthermal and frequency‐specific.

The Spherical Shock Factor Theory of a FSP with an Underwater Added Structure

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2019
A floating shock platform (FSP) is important experimental equipment for the antishock assessment of large-scale shipborne equipment. Generally speaking, the FSP is a square barge structure with a flat bottom.

Diffusion Spectrum Imaging Maps Early Axonal Loss and a Unique Progressive Signal in Neuronal Intranuclear Inclusion Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To delineate specific in vivo white matter pathology in neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease (NIID) using diffusion spectrum imaging (DSI) and define its clinical relevance. Methods DSI was performed on 42 NIID patients and 38 matched controls.

Validity of a Wearable Digital Insole for Assessing Gait ON and OFF in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Gait impairment is a distinctive symptom of Parkinson's disease that negatively impact mobility. We assessed the validity of wearable digital insoles against a validated reference gait analysis system for measuring select gait characteristics in patients with Parkinson's disease. Methods A comparative analysis between digital insoles
