Observation of two-wave structure in strongly nonlinear dissipative granular chains

open access: yes, 2006
In a strongly nonlinear viscous granular chain under conditions of loading that exclude stationary waves (e.g., impact by a single grain) we observe a pulse that consists of two interconnected but distinct parts.

Photoacoustic effect measurement in aqueous suspensions of gold nanorods caused by low-frequency and low-power near-infrared pulsing laser irradiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
When aqueous suspensions of gold nanorods are irradiated with a pulsing laser (808 nm), pressure waves appear even at low frequencies (pulse repetition rate of 25 kHz).

Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

Pressure-Volume Loop Analysis in Percutaneous Coronary Intervention-Induced Shock

open access: yesJACC: Case Reports, 2020
High-risk percutaneous coronary intervention may lead to undesirable clinical scenarios such as cardiogenic shock. We describe the hemodynamic changes using pressure-volume loop analyses in percutaneous coronary intervention-induced shock.

PULSE-SHOCK TREATMENT OF NARROWING INTER-PUMP CHANNELS

open access: yesVoronezh Scientific-Technical Bulletin, 2022
The methodology and technological support of the specified parameters of the surface of a narrow narrowing channel with a twist along the radius and the regulations for the design of combined pulse-force hardening operations have been created, a new patentable techno-logical process for strengthening narrow nar-rowing curved channels by combined pulse ...

Nonlinear Acoustics at GHz Frequencies in a Viscoelastic Fragile Glass Former [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Using a picosecond pump-probe ultrasonic technique, we study the propagation of high-amplitude, laser-generated longitudinal coherent acoustic pulses in the viscoelastic fragile glass former DC704. We observe an increase of almost ten percent in acoustic

Ferrocene Derivatives Enable Ultrasensitive Perovskite Photodetectors with Enhanced Reverse Bias Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Novel ferrocene derivatives (e.g., FcPhc2) are used as an ultrathin layer hole‐blocking layer, reducing hole injection from the Ag contact. This results in an ultralow noise spectral density of 1.2 × 10−14 A Hz−1/2, and a high specific detectivity of 8.1 × 1012 Jones at −0.5 V.

Vibration-Pulse Method of Assessing Technical Condition of Ball Bearings. Calculation of Shock Pulses Parameters

open access: yesМеханика машин, механизмов и материалов, 2019
Currently widely used methods of vibration diagnostics of bearings are intended mainly for quasi-stationary conditions of their operation. The proposed method for calculating the parameters of the shock pulse generated in radial ball bearings due to the ...

Dissipation and detonation of shock waves in lipid monolayers

open access: yes, 2018
Lipid interfaces not only compartmentalize but also connect different reaction centers within a cell architecture. These interfaces have well defined specific heats and compressibilities, hence energy can propagate along them analogous to sound waves ...
