3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Definition of the Parameters of the Shock Pulse in the Spur Gearing, Taking into Account the Elasticity of Shafts and Bearings

open access: yesМеханика машин, механизмов и материалов, 2012
This paper investigates the effect of elastic shafts and bearings on the parameters of the shock pulse in the mesh spur gears. It is possible to reduce the error in determining the amplitude of the shock pulse from 24.4 % to 8.34 %.

Laser-plasma interaction physics for shock ignition

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2013
In the shock ignition scheme, the ICF target is first compressed with a long (nanosecond) pulse before creating a convergent shock with a short (∼100 ps) pulse to ignite thermonuclear reactions.

Pentagonal 2D Altermagnets: Material Screening and Altermagnetic Tunneling Junction Device Application

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
From a database of 170 pentagonal 2D materials, 4 candidates exhibiting altermagnetic ordering are screened. Furthermore, the spin‐splitting and unconventional boundary states in the pentagonal 2D altermagnetic monolayer MnS2 are investigated. A MnS2‐based altermagnetic tunneling junction is designed and, through ab initio quantum transport simulations,

Laser pulse-length dependent ablation and shock generation in silicon at 5×10^{14} W/cm^{2} intensities

open access: yesPhysical Review Research
The effect of laser pulse duration on energy coupling into a planar silicon target is investigated in experiments at the OMEGA-EP facility by varying the laser pulse length τ—spanning 3 orders of magnitude from 100 ps to 10 ns—while maintaining a ...

Laser-Pulse Induced Plasma-Shock Wave Interactions

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series B, 2007
Interactions between plasma and shock waves, both of which are produced by the gas-breakdown induced by a CO2 laser pulse, are observed via framing Schlieren visualization. The deformation of the plasma bubble is characterized using the ratio of the laser pulse energy to the ambient pressure, and the laser beam diameter.

Demonstration of an All‐Optical AND Gate Mediated by Photochromic Molecules

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A logic AND gate that runs on photons is demonstrated. It relies on two spatially separated photochromic molecules that work in tandem. Abstract The realization of a photonic logic AND gate, i.e. a logic AND gate that runs on photons rather than electrons, and where all steps are controlled by light, is demonstrated. In a proof‐of‐principle experiment,
