Cassini encounters with hot flow anomaly-like phenomena at Saturn's bow shock [PDF]
The first observations of the kronian equivalent of hot flow anomalies (HFAs) are presented. Using magnetic field and plasma data we discuss two events that were observed upstream of Saturn's bow shock during the first two orbits of the Cassini ...

In the combined operation of tubing conveyed perforation (TCP) and drill stem test (DST), the perforator generates strong shock and vibration waves during perforation, which propagate around the explosion point through the connection link of the pipe ...

Commentary on a method for testing resistance to shocks
This note tours the Narayan (2020a: Has COVID-19 Changed Exchange Rate Resistance to Shocks?) approach to testing for resistance of a time-series variable to shocks. We take a step-by-step account of this approach and demonstrate its applicability with respect to the crude oil price.•The approach entails steps (1) to (8), as outline in the paper ...

I. The Use of a Large Conventional Shock Tube as a Pre-Ionizer for an Inverse Pinch Shock Tube. II. The Application of Thin-Film Heat Transfer Gauges and Flush Electrostatic Probes to Partially Ionized Flows in Shock Tubes [PDF]
Part 1. A large diameter (17"), conventional shock tube has been used as the pre-ionizer for an inverse pinch shock tube in an attempt to achieve separation of the shock front and the current sheath in the inverse pinch.

Design and test of underwater non-contact explosion shock protection floor for seamen
[Objectives]In order to more effectively protect the surface ship seamen from the shock injury caused by underwater non-contact explosion,[Methods]the shock environments and safety limits for seafmen aboard surface ship are analyzed firstly.

The thermal shock behavior of ceramic refractory materials is of particular interest. Refractory materials are submitted to local temperature gradients in service that originate thermal stresses and thermal shock damage to the material.

Shock on Variable or Shock on Distribution with Application to Stress-Tests [PDF]
The shocks on a stochastic system can be defined by means of either distribution, or variable. We relate these approaches and provide the link between the global and local effects of both types of shocks. These methodologies are used to perform stress-tests on the portfolio of financial institutions by means of shocks on systematic factors, for which ...

Modeling shock waves in orthotropic elastic materials [PDF]
A constitutive relationship for modeling of shock wave propagation in orthotropic materials is proposed for nonlinear explicit transient large deformation computer codes (hydrocodes).

Suppose a device is subjected to a sequence of shocks. This paper deals with the relationship between the life distribution of the device and the probability of surviving the first k (k=O, 1, 2,.... shocks, using cumulative damage models as introduced by Esary et al. (1973).

Are There Bubbles in Stock Prices? Testing for Fundamental Shocks [PDF]
This paper investigates whether there are bubbles in stock prices. We do this using a previously studied structural vector autoregressive (SVAR) model claiming to distinguish fundamental and non-fundamental shocks to real stock prices. The SVAR model relies on an identification restriction in order to correctly label the shocks.
