ON A DUSTY GAS SHOCK TUBE*

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1982
AbstractAnalytical and numerical methods were used to investigate the flow induced by a shock wave in a shock tube channel containing air laden with suspended small solid particles. Exact results are given for the frozen and equilibrium shock wave properties as a function of the diaphragm‐pressure ratio and shock wave Mach numbers. The driver contained

The Shock Tube

The Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society, 1954
In recent years interest has been revived in an apparatus which was first developed more than fifty years ago. This apparatus, which is known today as a shock tube, is a very useful research tool, the versatility of which is not generally appreciated in this country.

The Shock Tube

1967
To study the excitation of dissociation and ionization of molecules in a shock tube, one must establish a temperature at which these phenomena could take place. What conditions are necessary for this to happen?

A diaphragmless shock tube

Journal of Physics E: Scientific Instruments, 1984
A pneumatic valve has been designed to replace diaphragms in shock tubes and a diaphragmless shock tube has been constructed for use with the pneumatic valve. Performance tests have been carried out for the shock tube. The present apparatus is shown to be capable of producing shock waves up to 3.5 in Mach number and be convenient to use.

Interferometer for Shock Tube

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1966
A Twyman-Green arrangement with a narrow laser beam and twin photomultipliers is used to obtain positive indication of the direction of fringe movement, resolution of 1/12 of a fringe, and good discrimination against shock induced radiation. The instrument has been successfully applied to the study of ionization behind strong argon shocks.
