High-temperature laminar flame speed measurements in a shock tube

Combustion and Flame, 2019
High-temperature methane and propane laminar flame speed measurements were conducted behind reflected shock waves in a shock tube. A high-power Nd:YAG laser was used to spark-ignite the shock-heated gas mixtures and initiate laminar flame propagation ...

Hydrodynamic Shock Tube

The Physics of Fluids, 1963
An explicit solution is given to the one-dimensional hydrodynamic shock tube problem. The dynamic and thermodynamic quantities in the quasisteady states and the properties of the resulting waves are derived from the diaphragm pressure ratio and the initial conditions of the driver gas and the driven liquid.

Temperature determination in a shock tube using hydroxyl radical A-X band emission

The Physics of Fluids, 2019
Temperature determination in a shock tube is one of the most important factors to understand the relevant flow physics inside. In the present study, the reservoir temperature determination in a shock tube using the ultraviolet emission spectra of ...

Microscale Shock Tube

Journal of Microelectromechanical Systems, 2012
This paper reports on the design, microfabrication, characterization, and testing of the first instrumented micrometer-scale shock tube. This device was fabricated by a series of etching, deposition, and patterning processes of the different structural layers on a silicon substrate to first create an array of direct-sensing piezoelectric pressure ...

The Shock Tube

1967
To study the excitation of dissociation and ionization of molecules in a shock tube, one must establish a temperature at which these phenomena could take place. What conditions are necessary for this to happen?

Counter-driver shock tube

Shock Waves, 2015
A “counter-driver” shock tube was developed. In this device, two counter drivers are actuated with an appropriate delay time to generate the interaction between a shock wave and a flow in the opposite direction which is induced by another shock wave. The conditions for the counter drivers can be set independently. Each driver is activated by a separate

Hydrodynamic Shock Tubes

1994
Abstract The simple shock tube is well established as a facility for investigating numerous problems in the physical sciences. A similar method has been extended to the study of cylindrical and spherical shock waves and expansion waves in Chapter 8.

Shock tube technique

Zeitschrift für Elektrochemie, Berichte der Bunsengesellschaft für physikalische Chemie, 1957
AbstractA qualitative survey of one‐dimensional shock‐tube theory is presented first. The concepts discussed include: 1. the contact surface, 2. the incident and reflected shock wave, 3. the rarefaction wave, 4. interactions between shock and rarefaction waves, and 5.

Interferometer for Shock Tube

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1966
A Twyman-Green arrangement with a narrow laser beam and twin photomultipliers is used to obtain positive indication of the direction of fringe movement, resolution of 1/12 of a fringe, and good discrimination against shock induced radiation. The instrument has been successfully applied to the study of ionization behind strong argon shocks.

The Shock Tube

The Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society, 1954
In recent years interest has been revived in an apparatus which was first developed more than fifty years ago. This apparatus, which is known today as a shock tube, is a very useful research tool, the versatility of which is not generally appreciated in this country.
