SUMMARY SMAX1‐LIKE (SMXL) proteins, previously linked to strigolactone and karrikin signalling, play diverse and partially redundant roles in plant development. The divergent SMXL4 superclade—comprising SMXL3, SMXL4 and SMXL5—is not subject to strigolactone‐ or karrikin‐dependent proteolysis.

The PIN-FORMED (PIN) proteins are secondary transporters acting in the efflux of the plant signal molecule auxin from cells. They are asymmetrically localized within cells and their polarity determines the directionality of intercellular auxin flow.

OsAux1 is required for nutritropism in rice roots
SUMMARY Nutritropism is a directional root growth response to nutrient gradients, and rice (Oryza sativa L.) roots show nutritropism toward sources containing ammonium. Here, we report characterization of an EMS‐mutagenized rice plant that shows a complete defect in nutritropism.

In higher plants shoots show a negative gravitropic response but little is known about its mechanism. To elucidate this phenomenon, we have isolated a number of mutants with abnormal shoot gravitropic responses in Arabidopsis thaliana. Here we describe mainly three mutants: sgr1-1, sgr2-1, and sgr3-1 (shoot gravitropism).
