Accuracy of SCATT optoelectronic shooting system

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part P: Journal of Sports Engineering and Technology, 2014
This article defines SCATT optoelectronic system accuracy of weapon movement registration. Three types of errors were found in defining the coordinates of the aiming point on a SCATT target: asymmetry of the left to right and up to down results, absolute errors in each direction and the dependence of the error upon the distance to the centre of the ...

Mental Imagery, Relaxation, and Accuracy of Basketball Foul Shooting

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1994
18 female college basketball players were pretested on foul shooting, alternately assigned to relaxation or mental imagery training, and posttested after 4 training sessions over 3 weeks. Analysis of covariance indicated that the predicted improvement of the imagery group did not occur. The relaxation group was marginally superior at posttest

The role of ball path curvature in basketball shooting accuracy

Journal of Sports Sciences
During the shooting motion of a basketball, the path of the ball from the beginning of the lift to release follows an S-shaped trajectory. This study is the first to investigate how two distinctive features of the S-shaped ball path, the maximum curvature, κmax, and terminal curvature, σ, are associated with longitudinal accuracy.

A moving goalkeeper distracts penalty takers and impairs shooting accuracy

Journal of Sports Sciences, 2010
When facing penalty kicks in football (soccer), goalkeepers frequently incorporate strategies that are designed to distract the kicker. However, no direct empirical evidence exists to ascertain what effect such visual distractions have on the attentional control, and performance, of footballers.

Effects of a Target RIM on Basketball Shooting Accuracy

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1987
The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of a basketball target rim on free-throw and field-goal shooting accuracy. The target rims employed in this study were different from regular rims as the apparatus that connects the target rim to the backboard was painted a neutral color.
