Imminent Suicide: The Illusion of Short‐Term Prediction
Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, 2006The concept of imminent suicide is examined. A search of National Electronic Library for Mental Health, the Cochrane Library, PubMed, OVID and MD Consult databases was conducted using the terms “suicide, imminent.” The termimminentfrequently appears in the mental health literature, finding common usage among clinicians.

ENSO prediction and short-term climate prediction
2010We begin by making some non-standard distinctions, solely for convenience in the following discussion. We will define “ENSO prediction” as the process of predicting the SST in the tropical Pacific a month to a year or so in advance. We will use “short-term climate prediction” to refer to the procedure of predicting the climatic conditions in the global

Evaluation of short-term wind predictability
IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 1992Short-term wind predictability is the ability to foresee hourly wind energy one or several days in advance. The problem is addressed in general and the focus is on the form in which the predictability information should be given, which power models should be selected, and how to formulate the problem in a convenient perspective and approach its ...

Short term climate variability and predictions
AIP Conference Proceedings, 1992This paper first describes the nature of short term variability of the coupled atmosphere‐ocean‐biosphere system as shown by analysis and diagnosis of observations during the past 100 years. By ‘‘short term’’ we mean those fluctuations of the coupled climate system whose time scales range from 10 days to 1000 days.

Short-term predictions in forex trading
Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2004Abstract Using a kinetic equation that is used to model turbulence (Physica A, 1985–1988, Physica D, 2001–2003), we redefine variables to model the time evolution of the foreign exchange rates of three major currencies. We display live and predicted data for one period of trading in October, 2003.
