Assessing Strength of Multi-Infeed LCC-HVDC Systems Using Generalized Short-Circuit Ratio

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2019
In this paper, a generalized short-circuit ratio (gSCR) is proposed for assessing the grid strength of multi-infeed LCC-HVDC (MIDC) systems by the theoretical analysis of the relationship between static voltage stability and grid strength.

The conventional short-circuiting technique under-short-circuits most epithelia

The Journal of Membrane Biology, 1981
The relationships among ion current, membrane potential difference, and resistance of an epithelium are studied. The short-circuit technique introduced by Ussing and Zerahn does not completely short circuit the epithelium if the series resistance parallel to the cell layer between the voltage electrodes is not properly compensated.

Gate Failure Physics of SiC MOSFETs Under Short-Circuit Stress

IEEE Electron Device Letters, 2020
The unique gate failure mode of SiC MOSFETs is often identified but has not been fully understood yet. In this letter, post-failure cell inspections demonstrate that its main cause is the crack at the SiO2 dielectric layer with melted source aluminum ...

MIG short-circuit welding: on the short circuit duration

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1986
The short circuit duration in MIG short-circuit welding is evaluated using the Bless relationship which refers only to mass of drops and surface tension to molten metal. In a typical experiment, the experimental values of short circuit duration fit with the expected ones, considering acceptable value for the surface tension of molten iron.

Severity Estimation of Interturn Short Circuit Fault for PMSM

IEEE transactions on industrial electronics (1982. Print), 2019
This paper presents a novel method to estimate the number of shorted turns in a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) following the detection of interturn short-circuit (ITSC) fault and its location. In this proposed method, PMSM is excited through

Stator Short-Circuit Diagnosis in Induction Motors Using Mutual Information and Intelligent Systems

IEEE transactions on industrial electronics (1982. Print), 2019
This paper proposes a novel approach for detection of stator short-circuit faults in three-phase induction motors. The method is based on two stages: feature extraction and classification by intelligent systems.

Inter-Turn Short-Circuit Fault Detection Approach for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines Through Stray Magnetic Field Sensing

IEEE Sensors Journal, 2019
Fast online detection of inter-turn short-circuit faults for permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) is a challenging task. Previous attempts based on phase currents or back EMF monitoring lack the capability to accurately locate the inter-turn ...

Short Circuit Capability and Short Circuit Induced $V_{\mathrm{TH}}$ Instability of a 1.2-kV SiC Power MOSFET

IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics, 2019
The withstand capability and threshold voltage ( $V_{\mathrm {TH}}$ ) instability of 1.2-kV silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFETs under repetitive short circuit (SC) tests are investigated.

Assessing Impact of Renewable Energy Integration on System Strength Using Site-Dependent Short Circuit Ratio

IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy, 2018
The increasing penetration of renewable energy sources (RESs) can challenge both power system planners and operators to maintain system reliability. Potential power system stability issues may arise when a large amount of RESs are connected to a weak ...
