Detection of Interturn Short-Circuit Fault for PMSM With Simple Fault Indicator
IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 2016Interturn short-circuit fault is a kind of initial failure of the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) and serious consequences may be caused if it is left undetected. In this letter, a simple fault indicator is defined as the sum of the absolute values of amplitude differences between the stator currents, where the amplitudes of fundamental ...

Analysis of Fault Recorder Data for Short-Circuit Current in a 500kV Busbar Short-Circuit Accident
The three-phase short-circuit fault of the 500 kV busbar of Waigaoqiao No.2 Power Plant was described, and the fault recorder data was analyzed for short-circuit current. The RMS of short-circuit current decaying fundamental frequency component, DC component and the attenuation time constant was obtained by Fourier transform, extrapolating with the ...

Fault Tolerant Permanent Magnet Drives: Operating Under Open-circuit and Short-circuit Switch Faults [PDF]
A series architecture providing a fault tolerant drive is proposed. The architecture includes one or two DC sources, two voltage source inverters and a PMSM. Three different operating modes are considered: normal mode, open-circuit degraded mode and short-circuit degraded mode.

Short-circuit fault analysis on microgrid
2015 International Conference on Renewable Energy Research and Applications (ICRERA), 2015This paper presents, a fault simulation on a microgrid consisting of a wind turbine, a solar panel and fuel cell. The power produced by different sources is combined on the same DC bus and converted to AC form using a three phase inverter in order to transfer it to 3-phase AC load. The system takes some precautions against some undesired situations. In

A novel fault detection circuit for short-circuit faults of IGBT
2011 Twenty-Sixth Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC), 2011This paper proposed a novel fault detection circuit comparing the gate voltage of IGBT. The proposed scheme is operated to protect IGBT under short-circuit faults such as hard switch-fault (HSF). The proposed circuit consists of two parts. One is the difference generator which generates a difference between a gate voltage and an input voltage.

Locating short-circuit faults in underground networks
2011 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2011In power distribution networks, impedance short-circuit faults are hard to detect in their incipient stage, as the fault currents may not be large enough to trip circuit breakers. In this paper, we summarize our research activities in short-circuit fault localization in underground power distribution networks. First, a simulation testbed was built.

On the Numerical Complexity of Short-Circuit Faults in Logic Networks
IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1985The problem of estimating the number of all possible multiple short circuit faults in a network with a given number of lines is settled in this correspondence. A new combinatorial number, namely an associated Bell number B'(r), which enumerates the number of possible partitions of a set \(\{\) 1,2,\(\cdot \cdot \cdot,r\}\) with certain constraints, is ...

Short-Circuit Fault Detection Observer Design in a PMSM
IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2018This paper explores detecting interturn short-circuit (ITSC) faults in surface permanent magnet synchronous machines (SPMSM) while simultaneously estimating the (typically large) fault current to determine if operation is within thermal limits. ITSC faults are caused by electrical insulation failures in the stator windings and can lead to shorts to ...
