Reducing Latency in MEC Networks With Short-Packet Communications

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology
Different from the conventional transmit-then-compute scheme, which has been widely considered in mobile edge computing (MEC) networks, we propose a transmit-while-compute scheme to reduce the average latency.

Performance analysis of short-packet communications with incremental relaying

Computer Communications, 2021
Abstract In the fifth generation (5G) cellular system, short-packet communication is a key enabler to support critical applications, i.e., ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLCs), where finite block-length codewords are adopted. However, the short-packet communication suffers from a higher decoding error rate and has a lower transmission ...

Age of Information for Short-Packet Covert Communication

IEEE Wireless Communications Letters, 2021
In this letter, we develop a new framework to jointly characterize covertness and timeliness of short-packet communications, in which a new metric named covert age of information (CAoI) is first proposed and then a closed-form expression for the average CAoI is derived.

Performance Analysis of STAR-IRS Aided NOMA Short-Packet Communications With Statistical CSI

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2023
We analyze the benefits of simultaneous transmitting and reflecting intelligent reflecting surfaces (STAR-IRSs) for short-packet communications (SPC) with non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and statistical channel state information towards ultra ...

Performance Analysis and Deep Learning Design of Wireless Powered Cognitive NOMA IoT Short-Packet Communications With Imperfect CSI and SIC

IEEE Internet of Things Journal, 2022
In this article, we study wireless-powered cognitive nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) Internet of Things (IoT) networks with short-packet communications to improve spectrum utilization and sustainability, as well as reduce the latency under imperfect

Coding Performance Modeling for Short-Packet Communications

2019 53rd Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers, 2019
In this paper, an analytic model is developed to predict the performance of modern error correcting codes and modulation schemes over wireless channels with non-ideal channel estimation. The model is based on recent advances in finite- blocklength information theory, which provide accurate performance metrics for the transmission of short packets.

Short-Packet Communications for UAV-Based NOMA Systems Under Imperfect CSI and SIC

IEEE Transactions on Cognitive Communications and Networking, 2023
This paper studies the performance of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-aided short-packet non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) systems under imperfect channel state information (ipCSI) and successive interference cancellation (ipSIC).

Short-Packet Communications in IoT-Aided Cellular Cooperative Networks With Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2023
This paper investigates short-packet communications (SPCs) of a cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) Internet-of-Things (IoT)-based cellular network where an IoT master node acts as: (1) a relay for the cellular system and (2) a source for ...

NOMA-Assisted Secure Short-Packet Communications in IoT

IEEE Wireless Communications, 2020
The Internet of Things (IoT) is expected to provide ubiquitous wireless machine-type communication devices and extensive information collection, resulting in an unprecedented amount of privacy and secrets exposed to the radio space. Security issues become a major restriction on the further development of IoT.
