The analysis of channel noise properties and its correlation in nanoscale metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistors

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2022
During the traditional channel noise modeling of nanoscale MOSFETs, neither the suppression of shot noise by Fermi and Coulomb effects nor the cross correlation noise between the source current noise and gate current noise is considered.

Shot Noise of a Quantum Shuttle [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2004
We formulate a theory for shot noise in quantum nanoelectromechanical systems. As a specific example, the theory is applied to a quantum shuttle, and the zero-frequency noise, measured by the Fano factor F, is computed. F reaches very low values (F~0.01) in the shuttling regime even in the quantum limit, confirming that shuttling is universally a low ...

Shot-noise queueing models [PDF]

open access: yesQueueing Systems, 2021
AbstractWe provide a survey of so-called shot-noise queues: queueing models with the special feature that the server speed is proportional to the amount of work it faces. Several results are derived for the workload in anM/G/1 shot-noise queue and some of its variants.

Synaptic shot noise and conductance fluctuations affect the membrane voltage with equal significance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The subthresholdmembranevoltage of a neuron in active cortical tissue is a fluctuating quantity with a distribution that reflects the firing statistics of the presynaptic population.

Single-Shot Error Correction of Three-Dimensional Homological Product Codes

open access: yesPRX Quantum, 2021
Single-shot error correction corrects data noise using only a single round of noisy measurements on the data qubits, removing the need for intensive measurement repetition.

Detectability of the Cross-Correlation between CMB Lensing and Stochastic GW Background from Compact Object Mergers

open access: yesUniverse, 2022
The anisotropies of the Stochastic Gravitational-Wave Background (SGWB), produced by merging compact binaries, constitute a possible new probe of the Large-Scale Structure (LSS). However, the significant shot noise contribution caused by the discreteness

Shot Noise in Graphene

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2008
We report measurements of current noise in single- and multi-layer graphene devices. In four single-layer devices, including a p-n junction, the Fano factor remains constant to within +/-10% upon varying carrier type and density, and averages between 0.35 and 0.38.

Compact conversion and cyclostationary noise modelling of pn junction diodes in low-injection - Part II: Discussion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Starting from the compact conversion and cyclostationary pn diode noise model presented in the companion paper, we present an extensive validation based on comparisons with physics-based numerical simulations.

Shot noise in a strange metal

open access: yesScience, 2023
S trange-metal behavior has been observed in materials ranging from high-temperature superconductors to heavy fermion metals. In conventional metals, current is carried by quasiparticles; although it has been suggested that quasiparticles are absent in strange metals, direct experimental evidence is lacking. We measured shot noise to probe

PHOTON SHOT NOISE

open access: yesModern Physics Letters B, 1999
A recent theory is reviewed for the shot noise of coherent radiation propagating through a random medium. The Fano factor [Formula: see text] (the ratio of the noise power and the mean transmitted current) is related to the scattering matrix of the medium. This is the optical analogue of Büttiker's formula for electronic shot noise.
