Shoulder arthroplasty [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Radiology, 2008
Shoulder prostheses are now commonly used. Clinical results and patient satisfaction are usually good. The most commonly used types are humeral hemiarthroplasty, unconstrained total shoulder arthroplasty, and semiconstrained inversed shoulder prosthesis. Complications of shoulder arthroplasty depend on the prosthesis type used.

Orbital support and evolution of flat profiles of bars (shoulders) [PDF]

open access: yesApJ 955 38 (2023), 2023
Many barred galaxies exhibit upturns (shoulders) in their bar major-axis density profile. Simulation studies have suggested that shoulders are supported by looped $x_1$ orbits, occur in growing bars, and can appear after bar-buckling. We investigate the orbital support and evolution of shoulders via frequency analyses of orbits in simulations.

Instrumented shoulder functional assessment using inertial measurement units for frozen shoulder [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Frozen shoulder (FS) is a shoulder condition that leads to pain and loss of shoulder range of motion. FS patients have difficulties in independently performing daily activities. Inertial measurement units (IMUs) have been developed to objectively measure upper limb range of motion (ROM) and shoulder function.

Subacromial decompression versus diagnostic arthroscopy for shoulder impingement : randomised, placebo surgery controlled clinical trial [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
OBJECTIVE To assess the efficacy of arthroscopic subacromial decompression (ASD) by comparing it with diagnostic arthroscopy, a placebo surgical intervention, and with a non-operative alternative, exercise therapy, in a more pragmatic setting.

Influence of shoulder pain on muscle function: implications for the assessment and therapy of shoulder disorders [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Shoulder pain is often a challenging clinical phenomenon because of the potential mismatch between pathology and the perception of pain. Current evidence clearly emphasizes an incomplete understanding of the nature of shoulder pain. Indeed, the effective

Mid-term outcomes of a stemless ceramic head anatomic total shoulder replacement

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2022
Background In an anatomic shoulder replacement (aTSR) good results have been reported with the use of a stemless humeral prosthesis. In vitro a ceramic articulation with polyethylene has been shown to produce less polyethylene wear particles than with ...

Teaching quality improvement in Tanzania: a model of inter-professional partnership for global health development

open access: yesChristian Journal for Global Health, 2017
Background: Education is a universal need in health care and a tool for quality improvement. We developed a two-day medical education conference in Iringa, Tanzania, that has now evolved to teach the basics of quality improvement to an inter-professional
