Uniaxial Molecular Alignment in Thin Films Composed of Discrete NDI‐T2 Oligomers Investigated by Variable‐Angle Spectroscopic and Imaging Ellipsometry

open access: yesphysica status solidi (b), EarlyView.
Uniaxially anisotropic optical models are used to analyze spectroscopic ellipsometry data of thin films of discrete oligomers consisting of alternating units of naphthalene diimide (NDI) and bithiophene (T2). They point to a possible preferred molecular orientation parallel to the substrate surface in thermally crystallized films.

Bulk Single Crystals and Physical Properties of Rutile GeO2 for High‐Power Electronics and Deep‐Ultraviolet Optoelectronics

open access: yesphysica status solidi (b), EarlyView.
Bulk rutile GeO2 single crystals of 5–15 mm in diameter are grown by the top‐seeded solution growth. Among different dopants, Sb5+ is a very efficient n‐type donor enabling free electron concentrations above 1020 cm−3. Prepared wafers show full width at half maximum values of rocking curves below 30 arcsec and root mean square roughness of 0.15 nm. The

Artificial intelligence in rheumatoid arthritis

open access: yesRheumatology &Autoimmunity, EarlyView.
Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) over the past 5 years have brought significant progress to the medical field, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). AI integrates multimodal data, including clinical, imaging, omics, and longitudinal information, to enhance RA diagnosis and treatment.

Integrating multimodal data and machine learning for entrepreneurship research

open access: yesStrategic Entrepreneurship Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Research Summary Extant research in neuroscience suggests that human perception is multimodal in nature—we model the world integrating diverse data sources such as sound, images, taste, and smell. Working in a dynamic environment, entrepreneurs are expected to draw on multimodal inputs in their decision making.

Robust β‐Sheet Peptide Reinforced Polymer Fibers

open access: yesSmall Science, EarlyView.
β‐sheet nanocrystals are embedded into a range of different polymeric fibers by introducing a soluble monomer into the spinning dope solution and polymerizing after fiber formation. Polymer crystallization is found in specific polymeric fibers, resulting in an increase in tensile strength 2.2 and 4.3 times for poly(caprolactone) and cellulose acetate ...

Extrusion of Heterogeneous Filament‐like Structures: A New Paradigm in Fabricating Soft Mechanical Gradient with Long Span

open access: yesSmall Science, EarlyView.
An extrusion‐based technique to engineer a stiffness gradient interphase material that seamlessly bridges soft‐to‐hard interface without strain localization in multimaterial systems is presented. The gradient is obtained by spatial control of the distribution of reinforcing expandable microspheres in polydimethylsiloxane.
