Our other Others: on perpetration, morality, and ethnographic unease
Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, Volume 31, Issue 2, Page 454-473, June 2025.Abstract This article critically assesses the impact of political and moral positions within contemporary anthropology. Re‐examining ideas of advocacy and the ethical within the discipline, it argues for an alternative political anthropology that focuses on perpetration rather than victimhood, offenders rather than the offended.

Women who experienced spousal bereavement in the early middle ages faced various socio‐economic and legal ramifications; the ‘widow’ was further a rhetorical figure with a defined emotional register.
