Hydrodynamical Survey of First Overtone Cepheids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A hydrodynamical survey of the pulsational properties of first overtone Galactic Cepheids is presented. The goal of this study is to reproduce their observed light- and radial velocity curves.

An Algorithmic Approach to the Management of Shoulder Instability

open access: yesJournal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Global research & reviews, 2019
The recurrence of anterior shoulder instability can be as high as 86.7% in high-risk patients who are treated nonoperatively after their first incident of instability.

Configuration mixing calculation for complete low-lying spectra with the mean-field Hamiltonian [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We propose a new theoretical approach to ground and low-energy excited states of nuclei extending the nuclear mean-field theory. It consists of three steps: stochastic preparation of many Slater determinants, the parity and angular momentum projection ...

Sex-related differences in patients undergoing surgery for shoulder instability: a Multicenter Orthopaedic Outcomes Network (MOON) Shoulder Instability cohort study.

open access: yesJournal of shoulder and elbow surgery, 2019
HYPOTHESIS AND BACKGROUND Male sex has been identified as a risk factor for both primary shoulder dislocation and recurrent instability, and male patients more often undergo surgery for instability. Despite published discrepancies between sexes regarding

To Remplissage or Not to Remplissage Part 1: Prognostic Factors Influencing Recurrent Shoulder Instability in High-Risk Individuals with On-Track Shoulders Undergoing Primary Arthroscopic Anterior Stabilization

open access: yesOrthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine
Objectives: Recent studies have shown that a subset of on-track Hill-Sachs lesions (HSL), defined as near-track lesions, may have a high risk of failure after primary arthroscopic Bankart repair (ABR) alone. The aim of this study was to evaluate rates of

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Minimum energy configurations of repelling particles in two dimensions

open access: yes, 1998
Geometrical arrangements of minimum energy of a system of identical repelling particles in two dimensions are studied for different forms of the interaction potential. Stability conditions for the triangular structure are derived, and some potentials not
