Trends in Ocean S‐Isotopes May Be Influenced by Major LIP Events

open access: yesGeophysical Monograph Series, Page 341-376., 2021

Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact

An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.

Guadalupe pluton–Mariposa Formation age relationships in the southern Sierran Foothills: Onset of Mesozoic subduction in northern California? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We report a new 153 ± 2 Ma SIMS U-Pb date for zircons from the hypabyssal Guadalupe pluton which crosscuts and contact metamorphoses upper crustal Mariposa slates in the southern Sierra.

Distribution of rare earth elements in coal combustion fly ash, determined by SHRIMP-RG ion microprobe

open access: yesInternational Journal of Coal Geology, 2017
Abstract During coal combustion for electric power generation, rare earth elements (REE) are strongly retained in the ash fraction leading to significant enrichment compared to the REE content of the respective feed coals. Knowing how the REE are distributed in coal ash is essential to devising effective approaches for REE extraction from this ...

Isotope-geochronological (SHRIMP-RG) studies of zircon from muscovite-tourmaline granites of the Kolmozero-Voronya greenstone belt: insights for sources of rare metal pegmatites [PDF]

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2019
Abstract The article provides data on the U-Pb isotope (SHRIMP RG) study of tourmaline-muscovite granites of the Kolmozero-Voronya greenstone belt. The tourmaline-muscovite granites formed in the time span of 2451±60 Ma, which corresponds with the previously obtained age of tantalite from rare metal pegmatites of the Vasin-Myl’k deposit.

Post-supereruption recovery at Toba Caldera

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Toba Caldera in Indonesia had one of the largest volcanic eruptions over the last 100 kyr and has since undergone periods of resurgence. Here, the authors present zircon and sediment age data showing resurgence started after the climactic eruption and ...

SHRIMP ion probe zircon geochronology and Sr and Nd isotope geochemistry for southern Longwood Range and Bluff Peninsula intrusive rocks of Southland, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Permian–Jurassic ultramafic to felsic intrusive complexes at Bluff Peninsula and in the southern Longwood Range along the Southland coast represent a series of intraoceanic magmatic arcs with ages spanning a time interval of 110 m.y.

Variscan sourcing of Westphalian (Pennsylvanian) sandstones in the Canobie Coalfield, UK [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The zircon age spectrum in a sample from the Canonbie Bridge Sandstone Formation (Asturian) of southern Scotland contains two main peaks. One is Early Carboniferous in age (348– 318 Ma), and corresponds to the age of igneous activity during the ...

U-Pb zircon age of Ordovician magmatism in the Albera Massif (Eastern Pyrenees) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
New geochronological data from the Albera Massif confirm the presence of an Early - Mid Ordovician igneous event (472 - 465Ma) recorded in the pre-Variscan rocks of the Pyrenees.
