A Conceptual Framework and Methods for Studying the Connectivity of Fishes
ABSTRACT Connectivity is a multifaceted concept that has important implications for the management and conservation of marine and freshwater fishes. We developed a conceptual framework that encompasses multiple, interrelated categories of connectedness, including landscape (e.g., structural, functional) connectivity and ecological (e.g., trophic ...

Quantifying gas emissions from the "Millennium Eruption" of Paektu volcano, Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea/China [PDF]
Paektu volcano (Changbaishan) is a rhyolitic caldera that straddles the border between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and China. Its most recent large eruption was the Millennium Eruption (ME; 23 km3 dense rock equivalent) circa 946 CE, which ...

Climate Change Will Enhance Hypercapnic Hypoxia Threatening Mangrove Habitats
Abstract Mangroves host many marine species and support fisheries in developing (sub)tropical countries. The suitability of mangrove habitats depends strongly thier the water chemistry. Here, we show how global warming and rising atmospheric CO2 will reduce dissolved oxygen and increase CO2 in mangrove waters.

High- and Ultrahigh-Pressure Metamorphism in the North Qaidam and South Altyn Terranes, Western China [PDF]
The North Qaidam and South Altyn terranes extend approximately 1000 km across the northern Tibetan Plateau, and five localities preserve evidence of Early Paleozoic high-pressure (HP) or ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) metamorphism, including the presence of ...

3D Multicellular Scaffold Based Model for Advancing Bone Disorder Research
A scalable 3D multicellular in vitro bone model engineered by integrating osteoblasts, osteoclasts, and endothelial cells on biodegradable scaffolds. The system recapitulates key features of human bone remodeling and disease pathology. As a proof of concept, the model mimics osteogenesis imperfecta, demonstrating its potential as a physiologically ...

Two Novel S‐methyltransferases Confer Dimethylsulfide Production in Actinomycetota
This study identifies two novel S‐adenosine‐methionine‐dependent methyltransferases, MddM1 and MddM2, in actinomycetes from the Mariana Trench. These enzymes can convert toxic hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and methanethiol (MeSH) into dimethylsulfide (DMS), serving as a cellular detoxification and oxidative stress response.

ABSTRACT Genetic variation is indispensable for both natural and artificial selection, as well as evolution, adaptation, and the long‐term success of selective breeding programs. This study attempted to scrutinise genetic variations and responses within the breeding population of red tilapia across eight generations of selection (2016–2023).

Precise U-Pb zircon ages and geochemistry of Jurassic granites, Ellsworth-Whitmore terrane, central Antarctica [PDF]
The Ellsworth-Whitmore Mountain terrane of central Antarctica was part of the early Paleozoic amalgamation of Gondwana, including a 13,000 m section of Cambrian–Permian sediments in the Ellsworth Mountains deposited on Grenville-age crust.

Conservation Value of Shallow‐Water Habitats for Rays Within a Long‐Standing Marine Protected Area
ABSTRACT Marine protected areas (MPAs) are a widely used tool in the conservation and protection of threatened marine species. When MPAs include the key habitat of species into their design, they can provide refuge and opportunity for recovery from exploitative pressures.
